Subject: Messageboard Date: Mon, 19 Jul 1999 22:32:18 +1000 From: Mark Longmuir To: Mark Longmuir Molly: Who would you like to see on WL? (11-Jul-1999 15:21:49) Adam: Will Smith or anyone from SNL... see how funny they are without a script! (n/t) (11-Jul-1999 15:31:17) Leslie: *chants* Chris Kattan! Chris Kattan!....Ok, I'll go back to sleep now ;-) (n/t) (11-Jul-1999 19:17:43) jk: They couldn't be that much unfunnier than they currently are WITH one... (n/t) (11-Jul-1999 22:40:32) Steph: Let's see: Harrison Ford looking like he did in the early eighties. I don't care if he can't improvise, just let him stand in front of the camera. Really. But seriously, folks, that was serious. Okay, maybe not. I'm in one helluva weird mood tonight. (n/t) (11-Jul-1999 21:41:30) Matt: How long would it take for someone to shout "Star Wars" for F & T Styles? :) (n/t) (12-Jul-1999 08:59:59) Wayne: has Hugh Laurie been on? if so, was he any good? (he may have been on one of those eps never shown on The Comedy Network) (n/t) (11-Jul-1999 22:50:20) Emile: Hugh was a contestant on an episode of the Radio version of WL (which predates the TV version). Unfortunately none of us have gotten our hands on this ep. At least none that I know of. (n/t) (11-Jul-1999 22:54:49) Wayne: oh, Rowan Atkinson and Richard Curtis and Tony Robinson and anyone else connected with the Blackadder series too :) (n/t) (11-Jul-1999 22:58:52) Adam: Rowan Atkinson scares me... really. (n/t) (12-Jul-1999 08:09:45) Matt: Well, Stephen Fry, Steve Frost, Jim Sweeney & Steve Steen have all been on Blackadder and WLiiA? Curtis is a writer & Robinson a straight actor, so neither of them would be any good. :) (n/t) (12-Jul-1999 09:04:26) Wayne: Curtis has written such great dialogue for Blackadder, I'd just like to see if he could do it quickly... and I just want to see more of Tony Robinson... wonder if Angus Deayton, who's always the straight man, would be any good... and let's throw Smith and Jones, Hale and Pace and French and Saunders into the fray too :-) (n/t) (12-Jul-1999 23:07:42) Matt: Hale and Pace wouldn't work, as you need to be funny to appear on the show (though Josie seems to get away with it). And Griff Rhys-Jones was on a couple of times in the very early days and was very successful. The problem is that most of the people you mention get their laughs from carefully scripted material and, from TV interviews, they lack true natural humour and spontaneity. And Ben Elton wrote most of the one-liners in Blackadder - Curtis came up with the plots. :) (n/t) (13-Jul-1999 02:11:28) Monika: How about Nathan Lane? Or Robin Williams? (n/t) (11-Jul-1999 23:13:09) Molly: D'oh (12-Jul-1999 01:42:38) Matt: Robin Williams has appeared on a mini-episode. I think Hat-Trick had tried to get him to Britain to appear but he was unavailable, so when he popped across the pond later to be interviewed on Clive's chat show, Clive gave him a round of Authors to do and also a couple of Props. He was very funny, if slightly tiring! :) (n/t) (12-Jul-1999 09:18:08) dana: martin short! nathan lane! alan cumming! how about weird al? tom hanks? hmmm... and maybe some women... DIANE WIEST! sarah jessica parker? chita rivera? (n/t) (12-Jul-1999 10:18:07) Sasha (sneaking a peak at the MB at work!): Nathan Lane...definitely good choice! I didn't think about him! (n/t) (12-Jul-1999 12:26:58) Molly: How could forget Alan Cumming. "Oh deary me". :) (n/t) (12-Jul-1999 13:07:56) Brooke: Mike Myers. Anyone from Second City Mainstage or Travelling show (especially Sandy, Paul and Lee). Peter Oldring, Ray. Barry, Carey, Carey. Ash and I doing a new "telephone" game ;) (n/t) (12-Jul-1999 12:18:12) Ash/Pot: Yeah! Come on, give us a style!:) (n/t) (12-Jul-1999 13:18:06) Jessie (who likes this game *G*): It's been done before but I mean, I wanna stick with the good old favourite. Swedish Porn :) (n/t) (12-Jul-1999 13:35:34) Matt, who really shouldn't be typing this: Sticking with Swedish Porn? Hope you cleaned up afterwards... ;) (n/t) (12-Jul-1999 16:12:59) Pot: *ring* *moan* *ring* "Oh yah, I hope de Kettle is home..." The only thing is that it can't be a former contestant, it has to be a new person from an improv group/show you saw or an actor/actress you think might do a good job. Here I go. Chris Ellis (he was on Quick Witz last night, I'm not sure which group he's in, but he seems to be good, and he's British.) Jonathan Magnum (he's also been on Quick Witz, and he's in The Houseful of Honkeys, which also has/had Wayne and I think Denny?) Brian Frates (he's a member of Improv Assylum, which is a great improv troupe from Boston, they're great) Amy Roeder (another member of Improv Assylum) Howie Mandel (he was part of Second City and he was in the same SC troupe I think with Ryan) Well, those are the ones I could think of. Hmm, I know they might not work, but what about Rik Mayall, Ade Edmundson, Julia Swalha (sp), Jennifer Saunders, Wendy Richard, Imelda Stauton (sp, she was in Peter's Friends as Hugh's wife), and I'll vote for Nathan Lane.
