For those of you who are unaware, Jim appeared on three episodes of the New York-based show (plus compilations) in the earlier days alongside his performing partner from the Interplay troupe in New York, Christopher Smith. Jim left me personally with some memorable moments, such as his boxing trainer in Party Quirks, his credit reading as Kevin Costner and his song about James Brown during Psychiatrist with Josie Lawrence. Anyway, I won't transcribe the message fully, but Jim thanked me for getting in touch and complimenting his WL? performances and promised to tell Christopher of my mail. He also hopes to pay this MB a visit soon - so watch this space! The page was apparently taken down a little while ago, but included on it was an e-mail from Jim's WL and Interplay partner Christopher Smith, which I hope nobody minds being reproduced here... -- Whose Line is it Anyway? Christopher Smith I got an email message from Christopher Smith, who has appeared on WLiiA? several times with his partner in crime (err, comedy) Jim Meskimen. He gave me permission to put the info on my page. June 13, 1996 As you can tell from the above, I am Christopher Smith. Jim Meskimen and I have performed for the last twelve years or so with an improvisational troupe called INTERPLAY. (I was spock to his Kirk.) We were based in New York for many years and moved to Los Angeles about three years ago. We developed a late night comedy show with the Fred Silverman Company, but obviously it didn't fly. We stayed in Los Angeles anyway. INTERPLAY just completed a run at the Cinegrill in the Hotel Roosevelt in Hollywood. We expect to be back there in May. Jim has been featured in The Paper and Apollo 13. He had a recurring role on The Fresh Prince of Bellaire last season. I don't know if he was on Bonnie Hunt's show or not. His mom is Marion Ross, Mrs. C from Happy Days. Jim, who works a lot in commercials, was the little guy on the TGI Friday's commercials recently. In addition to my work with INTERPLAY, my wife and I teach improvisation privately in Los Angeles. My wife is Tamara Wilcox-Smith, director of INTERPLAY and the person who taught Jim and I to do what we do. She started in improv with The Committed in San Francisco, directed by Del Close. She was in the movie M*A*S*H, and shortly after moved to New York. Her students from those days include Jerry Seinfeld, Rita Rudner, Griffin Dunne, and Allyce Beasley. (Jerry and Allyce were members of the orginal INTERPLAY cast.) Together we have taught improv to Isaac Hayes, Kelly Preston, Joey Lawrence, Claire Danes, Devon Gummersoll and many others. I wrote a special for Earth Day for the Disney Channel which featured Ted Danson, Mary Steenburgen, John Travlolta, Kirstie Alley, Emilio Estevez, Ed Begley Jr., and lots more. I also write for an Internet company calle Luckman Interactive. I work in commercial too, and can currently be seen as the Dad in an award-winning Bank of Boston commercial. I also starred in James McLure's Lone Star directed by Joanne Woodward. And I am currently at work on a sitcom for a Los Angeles based production company. August 13, 1996 I wanted to let you know that I have a product on the streets now called Politicards '96. It is a deck of playing cards with caricatures of political figures on each card. I came up with the concepts and a gentleman by the name of Peter Green did the artwork. They are available in Crown Bookstores and many other outlets. It was a fun project and our Web site is coming soon. Give it a few weeks and then check www.politcards.com Mark ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Message thread: Matt: Correspondence from the great Jim Meskimen (31-Jul-1999 11:28:38) Mark: Correspondence from the great Jim's partner...
