Sunday, 24-Oct-1999 11:52:50 171.219.150.58 writes: so, i finally got over to chicago city limits to see denny perform right here in new york, and i must say, it was an EXCELLENT SHOW! About every other to every third sketch was improv - it was a good blend with the written sketches and the improv in one show. The audience was rather quiet to start out with, so i got a LOT of my suggestions in (quite a change from the DL tapings!) -- but while they were not so talkative, the audience certainly liked to laugh - and their suggestions were pretty wild sometimes, and VERY new york! some of my suggestions that got in: - the very first sketch was a song about Flamenco Dancing! (denny sang that in her family Flamenco dancing is when uncle marvin coughs up some!) - jeopardy category: PORK - rabinnical school - there are monkeys in my shorts! - the KKK march in NY yesterday - the opening of the musical "saturday night fever" - prohibition (hey, i'm loud!) some choice denny characters and lines: (not suggested by me): - a HOOTERS waitress - she had this blonde wig and a HUGE thing stuffed inside her shirt (this was jeopardy along with a lawyer and a dragon slayer with a fab scottish accent). the Hooters waitress turned out to be a recurring character... - "i'll be white in the next millenium! i'm white! i'm white!" - "gee, he sounds like a great guy, can i have his number? UGH!" (a girl named crissy from the audience was stood up by her boyfriend on her birthday...) (Jeopardy Announcer:) "a flock of seagulls." (Denny:) "What are MINIONS" (scattered applause) "The JEWS got it!" it was a very jewish audience... i guess it being the late show on saturday night we got the post shabbat crowd... i wish i could remember more specifics - but i wasn't transcribing, sorry... then after the show i went up to her to say hey, and say that i met her at the whose line tapings -- and while i don't know if she remembered me. i didn't have THE photo, since it's at school and i'm at home, but i let her know that we had met, and my friend pointed out that we were some of the jewish population of the audience... and she laughed... :) so a splendid time was had by all. the woman is AMAZINGLY talented... and you should ALL come to new york to see her perform!! as always, dana ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Message thread: dana: Denny Siegel at Chicago City Limits - thoughts and reviews!
