for TIMOTHY LEO LYONS:
Leo was 39 years old when he died of pulmonary tuberculosis. He
was in the early stages of disease when he was married in 1935.
After his son was born they moved in with Leo's sisters, Bess
and Katherine. Bess was a nurse and both she and the doctor said
that Jimmy his son shouldn't be around his father because TB is
very contagious. Leo was isolateed in an upstairs bedroom. Leona,
his wife said the Leo could see his son Jimmy but didn't get
to touch or hold him. He was a real cute baby so it was difficult
for Leo not to be able to be close to him. Leona, his wife, and
her sister Marcelia Basquill and Jimmy later lived with their
father, William, until his death. Marcelia was 100 years old on
her birthday in Sept. 2002. She never married. Jim spent a lot
of time with his Aunts Kate and Bess Lyons and cousin Alice Lyons.
They were unmarried professional women so they were like surrogate
Mothers to Leo's son, Jimmy. Alice would take Leo's son, Jimmy
on trips when he was a young boy - they went to New York, Washington
DC and to Detroit to visit the McQueens.
