Term 1 meeting 2005
Gentlemen:The next meeting of the Sunshine Coast Branch of the Industrial Technology and Design Teachers Assoc. will be held at Spence Doors & Joinery
15 Industrial Av Kunda ParkSpence Doors combine state-of-the-art processes and equipment with traditional craftsmanship and experience to provide the answers to even the most complex design problems. Working closely with architects, specifiers and builders and continuously developing our processes has allowed SPENCE to remain at the forefront of door manufacturing technologies and applications.
Our visit to Spence Doors included an extensive tour of the factory floor which I must add was impressively clean and well organised. We were shown a broad variety of processes many of which included the latest in CNC technology. Waste management has been thoroughly addressed at Spence Doors with a recycling programme developed for the solid timber offcuts. These are collected and shipped to Brisbane where they are finger jointed and returned to Spence where they are run through a 4 side planer. Once dressed the recycled timber is used for framing in non face applications. We were shown through the assembly area where a diverse range of window and door joinery is produced for both builders and architects.
Over twenty five members turned out for this industry visit. It should set the standard for the remaining term meetings for 2005
