Term 2 meeting 2005

Gentlemen:The next meeting of the Sunshine Coast Branch of the Industrial Technology and Design Teachers Assoc. will be held at Davidson's Sawmill on the 5th of May 2005

The address is 270 Bunya Rd. North Arm Ph. 5446 7308

North Arm

Davidson's Sawmill is a small family run hardwood mill with a long history on the Sunshine Coast. It was taken over by Gerard and Dot Davidson in 1953. Gerard's brother completed the team as a talented saw doctor. Gerard invested heavily in the mill in recent years with the total reconstruction of the shed and the installation of a highly automated sawbench and ancillary equipment.
Sadly both Gerard and his brother passed away recently and the mill operation was taken over by Gerard's son John.
John Davidson has agreed to show INTAD members its design and operation and share with us some of the history and fascination of turning trees into useable building materials.
A meal and meeting will follow at the historic Eumundi Hotel.
Members who attend will be eligible for free tickets to the Brisbane Working With Wood Show. The INTAD committee is also investigating the viability of running a free bus from Gympie with pickups along the way.

A close up look at the controls of the saw bench. It is automated enough to be controlled by a single operator

Davidson's sawmill has been run by the Davidson family since 1953. It's most recent upgrade makes it a truly state of the art small hardwood mill.
