February 2005 More work, study, weddings and renovations. That pretty much sums up the last few months. We had an enjoyable "orphan's" Christmas in Sydney at our friend Helen's place, one of the highlights being a dozen rainbow lorikeets deigning to be hand fed on the balcony.
Dave was working between Christmas and New Year but we did manage to sneak down to the scenic South Coast for a couple of days for a spot of camping with Vanessa and Wendy.
We passed midnight on New Year's Eve waiting for our bags in the arrivals hall at Wellington airport, en route to Jamie and Corinne's wedding bash at their lovely rural home near Levin, where they're both teaching. Despite the inclement weather we had a most excellent time thanks to the combined musical talents of Jamie's family (in particular their special song for the wedding couple: "Jam and Cream") and a good supply of classic party hits on Dave's laptop.
We managed a quick catch up with family back in Wellington before heading back to work on the 4th. Since then we've been head down tail up apart from a well deserved week off for Dave at the end of January, which included a lot of renovation chores such as buying the bath and toilet and inspecting window suppliers, plus working from home and study (Corporate Finance this semester). On Australia Day he set off with the Twocan crew for a three leg race to the beautiful Port Stephens via Pittwater and Newcastle. Check out his race report (on page 4 of the news letter) on the MYC web site. All in all not much of a relaxing week off... Sadly our fourth annual Cecil St Cinema event was rained out two thirds of the way through our second feature (Whale Rider) but was nevertheless another fun evening with around 60 attending. For Flick's birthday we went to a Teppenyaki restaurant in China Town, followed by a boogie at the deliciously seedy Club Retro.
February saw our seventh wedding celebration since last September (yes, that's more than one a month with our next one at Easter!) with a reception for Flick's Polytech friend Helen who eloped with Tom in the Hunter late last year after moving to Sydney a few years ago.
The house is coming along nicely and having a good builder certainly helps. With gibrock sheeting currently underway it's really taking shape - check out the Renovations page for latest pictures. Hopefully the house warming will be in late June, so if anyone in NZ wants to come over for it please let us know. Meanwhile living in Clontarf is proving very pleasant, with terrific landlords Peter and Moira (our financial planner's parents - they live upstairs), harbour views and a secluded beach nearby. Check out a couple of new photos in the Friends and Family sections. We've also started retaining previous "New" pages under the Photos section. All the best,
