May 2005 This update is being compiled in the comfort of our new attic study, which is fitted out with a big built in desk, book cases, stereo and wireless network. That's right, about 23 months after we started to look for architects and six months after construction began, we've moved back in to Cecil St. What a transformation! Check out the renovation photos for construction and finished product highlights. Of course, while the house is now almost done (there are still a couple of finishing touches to go), the garden is now a bomb site and half the fence has fallen down. Some of our furniture is also looking decidedly daggy in its elegant new surroundings, but everything in good time! What with that project (try moving house twice within six months), plus work and study, plus the yacht we sail on being unfortunately out of action for most of the year due to keel problems (after the excellent Manly to Port Stephens race in late January, which we won), we haven't really had time to do much on the extra-curricular front. However, there have been a few highlights: Our friends Jon and Sophie tied the knot during Easter at a lovely venue on Bradley's Head overlooking the city and harbour bridge. It was a lovely wedding too, with members of Sophie's family and friends over from England while Jon's (including mutual friend Greg pictured top right below) made the shorter Trans-Tasman trip.
We enjoyed a relaxing ANZAC Weekend with Toby & Diane and their children Dominic and Cecilia, who made the move to Brisbane (silly people - should have been Sydney - Ed.) late last year. They have bought a beautiful and spacious Queenslander in the semi rural suburb of Samford and much merriment was had by all during our stay. We went up to Noosa for the day and had fun burying Toby.
Congratulations also go to Louise & James, who celebrated the birth of their second daughter Imogen in late May. Now it cannot be said that there are no perks being married to a bikini brand manager. Apart from having to get out of bed extremely early one Wednesday morning in May and then having to pack goodie bags with swim suits and hair product, Dave was very pleased to attend Flick's summer 05/06 season launch event in a restaurant overlooking Bondi Beach. Can't imagine why. Even more pleased was Dave's colleague and friend Connor, who sneaked an invite and wound up with his mug in the Sunday paper. In fact, the media coverage has been quite extensive, even if it has mostly been about the socialites who attended the event, rather than the Wahine "Goddess Within" swimwear range.
We managed to sneak away to the Hunter a few weekends ago via Gosford to catch up and breakfast with our friends Siobhan and Mark, who have just bought a cafe there, plus Flicker and Matt, who have recently bought a house nearby. We were privileged to stay with our friends Matt and Tina in their fabulous home and be some of the first to sample their new (and delicious) Idlewild wines. Look out for the label - they're getting some fantastic reviews.
Stand by for coverage of our house re-warming event to be held in July. If you haven't received an invite yet then get in touch. All the best,
