SUGGESTED READING

These are all books that I have obtained over the past few years that have served as inspiration for Eburacum. If you want to know a little more about the Arthurian legends, you can't really go wrong with the first few pieces of literature. For "Pendragon" roleplaying game related material, the 5th edition has recently been released: get it here.

Sites about historical Eburacum:

COLONIA EBORACENSIVM
Deals mostly with the Roman history of Eburacum. Excellent map of York in 1851 (drawn by John Tallis) that I used as clipart and as a background template for the city map. Very interesting.

The Romans in Britain
Excellent site dealing with the Roman occupation of Britain, covering everything from historical events to Roman architecture, innovations and everyday life.

Sites about current-day York:

York Archaeological Trust
A charity organisation involved in archaeological and educational services.

BritainExpress
A great website with a lot of information on current day York and it's history. Good site to visit if you are planning a trip there.

Yorkweb
Another website on current day York, a visitor's 'guided tour'.

John Burke's Castles Webpage
A tourist's account of a visit to Cliffords Tower as it stands today.

Clifford's Tower
A site devoted specifically to Clifford's Tower.

Merchant Adventurers Hall
Although only built in the mid 1300's, the Hall makes for a charming addition to the background setting of the city.

Arthurian Legends and Myths:

Mythology and Folklore
A starting point for information and other websites about a variety of myths and legends, including those associated with King Arthur.

Gods, Saints and Deities:

La Maison Forte NORSK SKOGKATT - Freyja
Perhaps the best summary of the background to the goddess Freyja (used for background on Freyjas Daughters), based on a excerpt from the book "Gods and Myths of Northern Europe", by H.R. Ellis.

Catholic Encyclopedia
Catholic Online Saints
Entries with background on St Martin of Tours, one of the most popular saints of the Middle Ages.

Fonts, Clipart and Graphics Sources:

Heraldry Clipart
Just like the title says, heraldric clipart and links to other sites that have such images.

Castle Area Campaign
I obtained several images from this site, mainly early ink artwork of York (used as clipart for the page titles), as well as a image of Cliffords Tower used for the Eburacum Castle section. A lot of the links to the images have been removed unfortunately, but I leave it here to reference the source of clipart used on this site.

Miscellaneous Links:

Saint Mary's Church Houghton-on-the-Hill
A fascinating account of one of the oldest churches in England, including the trials and tribulations of restoring it despite the malicious interests of satanists.

Roman Board Games
Fancy trying your hand at knucklebones? This game goes into some of the board games and games of chance that were prevalent in Roman society.

Gwyddbwyll
The ancient celtic game of Gwyddbwyll and how it was played.
