Introduction

Waning Glory begins at the start of 566AD. Britain is in a time of turmoil. The High King is dead, and in the chaos of the weeks following the battle of Camlann, a heavy and ruthless winter sets in accross the island. Travel is dangerous and next to impossible - settlements, villages, towns and cities alike become isolated countries of their own as dense drifts of snow blanket the landscape. The people are uneasy: there is a sense of some... change. A foreboding that does not feel of what is to come... but of what may already be here.

New characters to Eburacum who are not native to the city arrive unexpectedly. They may have been lost for hours, days, or even weeks, from any part of Britain... but the first man-made structure they see looming out from the thick mists is one of Eburacum's four 'bars' (or gates). In many cases, arriving at the city should be a physical impossibility. But they are here regardless of the mystery. And to travel on, would invite certain death.

The guards address all newcomers tersely, and they are taken immediately to Eburacum Castle to address Sir Galerus, the Seneschal...

"Death and Renewal"
Kyrillos arrives at Bootham Bar. Possessed by the need to follow his path, he refuses the welcome of the city guards, making his way into the city uninvited.

"Frost"
Cheating the death winter had promised him, Sir Godivann expends everything to make safe within Eburacum's walls.

"The End of the Road"
Kyrillos makes his way to the Abbey of St. Martin to speak with Gildas, and old confidant from what seems like a long time ago.

A frantic messenger relays details of an attack on the guards at Bootham Bar. Siezing the opportunity, Sir Gareth rides to confront the mysterious assailant.

"An Insurmountable Task"
Stuck in Eburacum over winter, Lady Ceolwyn has the unwanted appreciation of Princess Liliane. She is faced with helping her in what looks like a wild fantasy.

"Ride, Gareth, Ride"
Sir Gareth rides with all haste to the abbey. Along the way, he has a strange encounter with an obstruction of the unusual kind.

"False Alarm"
All seems to be well inside St. Martin's Abbey. Sir Gareth makes sure the unknown assailant can do no more harm to anyone, and awaits the arrival of reinforcements.

"Awakening"
Coming to his senses, Sir Godivann finds himself being cared for at St Martin's Abbey. His wounds strangely healed, the knight makes haste to leave before his status can bring harm to his hosts.

"Quite the Anti-climax"
Sir Gareth finds that the reports of a guard's death were greatly exaggerated. No longer needed, he smooths things over and leaves the guards to attend to the assailant.

"The Walking Wounded"
Kyrillos speaks with the monk Gildas about the purpose of his visit. His attack on the guard at Bootham Bar will not go unpunished however.

"The Return of Rhodri"
After a brief visit to his mistress, Sir Gareth returns to the castle to a sooner-than-expected duel with Sir Bertrand. Anxious to acquit himself well, bad fortune decides to visit him instead.

"Coming Home"
Sir Cynran finally gains an audience to see the seneschal, but is told and trusted little. He then makes his way to the Old Baille and a rather muted welcome.

"Casting the Bones"
Just minding his own business, Caradoc is approached by an odd looking merchant for an opportunity that sounds too good to be true...

"The Punishment Fits the Crime"
The King will not allow the assault on the city guards to go unpunished. Kyrillos is taken to the Shambles to be flogged.

"Precautions"
Cardoc returns to his wagon to ensure no foul deeds are afoot. Is Maelas a spotter for bandits, or an agent of some other deception?

"A Squire's Life"
Rhodri doesn't seem to make friends too easily, but he has one that is quite handy with their fists. Sir Gareth witnesses an attack on his squire, but getting much out of the boy afterwards is just as difficult as before.

Without warning, Brightheart escapes from the Castle and takes off into the countryside. Sir Gareth goes in pursuit of his mount, with the assistance of one of the King's woodwards.

"Familiar Places"

Gareth finds himself at his home in Boroughbridge, but he is apparently a guest of the Lady Aeronwen. How he got there, or where he ends up next, is as much a mystery as the motives of the Lady in Green.

"The Garden"
Lady Ceolwyn is roused from her sleep at night by distant laughter. Recognising it as the Princess, she ventures out to the old garrison building during a blizzard, and discovers something sinister.

"The Return"
Awakening from his strange encounter, Sir Gareth finds himself within easy distance to the city. The landscape has changed and the lay of the land is different.

"Tales and Visitations"

On the night of the fierce blizzard, the knights of Arthur indulge in an epic tale courtesy of Sir Aedan. While the Byzantium Kyrillos looks on, another vision tries to lend him encouragement. A portent appears to ruin their already gloomy evening.

"Coin for Mass"
Caradoc takes the coin left by his strange guest and goes to buy mass for the benefit of his departed father.
