Consistency

HI all

To comment on Ewen's comment:

QUOTE
Hi Plu. You've been pretty consistant this year - does this mean you have the injury under control?

Interesting word consistent.

I have managed to be consistent with my weight 80kg - with the effort of diet control since I run less.

I am consistent about is that I get attached to goals.Last year I managed 100km a month run no matter what. I perhaps paid for this. Never really gave the body a chance to heal - it would also be nice to know what actually is to be healed biggrin.gif . One proviso. It has taken me a few months to mentally adjust to not going for a longer, more regular and harder run

There is usually one break out when I do silly run each month. In June it was the run from the Opera House to Penno at 12:30am, last month it was a hard run I did and I pulled up really sore. That is consistent I guess.

Ewen the inconsistency is what I am pleased about. It seems for years now every day I get out of the car at work my left hand side twinges. Now this happens on an inconsistent basis. I have the same inconsistency when I run sometimes it is good and sometimes all hell break use.

I guess however, provided I don't do anything too silly in another 12 months things will get better and better.

Westleigh "political" 10km

Hi all

Westleigh 10km 68 minutes

This morning at work @trevorcook broke the news to me on Twitter about the NSW Premiership. I believe was on the radio but a peek at Twitter revealed it to me - even before it appeared on the main online pages of newws.com.au and abc.net.au.

Once home in the afternoon I found a small radio and headphones and went for a 10km Westleigh run listening to the events of the day. Yesterday when John Watkins resigned I thought there would be an orderly transition but I feel that it really is a chaotic as it appeared to unfold today. While on the run I ran into CR Barney and we had a quick chat.

Life

As for the rest of the weekend Jenny has a sports evening at her school and our friends are down from Bulahdelah for the weekend. Jenny also has a 30th anniversay of leaving school. I should be having one this year but no news about it yet.

Other exciting news this week is that Monas a life long mate from school and university and Godfather to @15b has been appointed a Magistrate to the Federal Court. Here is the official blurb:

Associate Professor Geoffrey Monahan
Associate Professor Monahan holds a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Sydney, a Master of Laws from the University of New South Wales and a Bachelor of Arts from Macquarie University. He has been an associate professor in the Faculty of Law, University of Technology, Sydney, since 2000. Weekend That Was - 10 Km Westleigh

Hi all,

10km Westleigh 66 minutes

I pulled up fine after Friday's 10km run and planned to be sensible and have Saturday off which I spent looking at Realestate in the rain. Jenny went to host a booth at a school open day on Saturday morning. The five kids just hanged around at home as we popped in and out. With Jenny tennis off due to the rain she came with us as well. In the evening Jenny went to her reunion with rosie and I stayed at home with t with the kids in one room and Rodney and I watched Conspiracy Theory in the other.

Once Sunday emerged we took it easy and when a few went to sport and Jenny to another school function, I went for the same run I did on Friday a bit faster in 66 minutes.

That is about it.

Hi all,

Out on the bike with the radio on at 10:00pm. 2GB first and it was a lawyer, then some ordinary songs on 101.7am and finally a 702 (Sydney ABC)show on leadership in the noughties- dealing with gener X and Y. Really good stuff - and a good ride as well.

Two points stand out.

Penno Road Semi Trailer 10km

Hi all,

penno road semi trailer 10km
34:45 out and 33:12 back for 1:07:56

Slow as... but fat burning and at least I went out. How did I get myself out the door?

I tweeted earlier tonight that I felt like a run last night and had a rest day and today I was due for a run and I was tired. When this happens I give myself some time and I normally turn things around.

I came home had some toast and tea and took it easy. I have been a bit tight since the ride the other night. I rode with a high cadence- once again giving weight to the theory that riding has an impact on the body as well.

Ali was doing some science and @15b was doing physics- it just reminded me of how I quit physics half way through Year 11. I was a bit helpless and I could not help him at all. I was watching both new inventors and NRL on Fox for an hour and was about to waste my time on a movie.

Whilst in this limbo I was about to have another diet coke and decided I was feeling bloated and needed to go out the door. So I rugged up and out I went. Once I was warm I was fine. I love the sound of and watching the semis roar past along penno road- there is not much traffic so the air is clean.

You might ask why I am running 10km? I just want to burn some fat and not go too fast. So slightly longer runs at a slower pace seem to be alright for my body. Also I don't feel as gulity with a day off this way and I can break the runs up with a ride though I went a bit hard two nights ago.

Life And The Weekend Ahead

Posted by plu, Sep 12 2008, 12:10 PM
Admin/Owner Options

Hi all,

Rather than the weekend that was I will do the weekend ahead today.

Life

Wednesday was Dad's birthday on Wednesday and it is also the 17th anniversary of Jenny's father's death.

Friday Jenny's birthday and for long term readers Murry is having his first internal examination after cancer surgery from last year - fingers crossed.

Friday night may be going to avoca for the night to check things. Bob might come and we will watch The Godfather - he is married into an Italian family and has never seen it. Why am I not staying home for jenny's birthday - @15b is going out and Jenny and Ali are going to do work - so I am clearing out so I am around later on the weekend.

Saturday: home to vote for I have no idea who then a run in the arvo.

The rest of the weekend will just unfold

Running

On the running front I decided to have two days off so I will run on Saturday and may be Sunday.

Good running to those doing the Glasshouse 100miler on the weekend in the Glasshouse Mountains.

Have a great weekend all.

Hi all,

35 minute spin cycle 12km

Came home and jumped on the bike straight away.

Then headed out to Arcadia to pick up Ali and Jenny. Watched Australian Idol and was glad Teale stayed but wanted Jonny to stay as well.

Then I again rang Murry to talk about his results from the tests last Thursday and Friday and his chat with specialist today - the orginal location is fine but there are secondary cancer growths - bugger.

I am going to check out some books in Gleebooks tomorrow before my AGM. Ring me (044RUNNING) if you are in the area and are up for a cuppa about 4:30-5:45pm I will either be in Gleebooks or the Otto cafe down the road a bit.

A Lecture And 10km Westleigh Run

Posted by plu, Sep 17 2008, 10:05 PM

Hi All,

10 km Westleigh 70 minutes

After teaching climate graphs to Year 7 I jumped in the car to go to Macquarie University to give the second of the two lectures I give each year on integration ICT into teaching and learning to teachers in training.

I killed a bit of time to this view.

I came home to Ali chilling, @15b not at home, Jenny still at school and a house with no fresh food. So I went to the shops, cooked the food and had a bite to eat.

After sending an email to Murry about some research from readings and discussions I headed out for a run.

So I headed out into the night, running through the bush in the dark through to Westleigh and back home. Very relaxing - just what I needed.

The Value Of Mental Prep Easing Into A Run - 6km

Posted by plu, Sep 24 2008, 06:14 PM
Admin/Owner Options

Hi all,

Westleigh 6.2km 35:38

Tonight I re-learned the lessons of mental preparation and easing into a run. I got home and was feeling a bit weak or low in energy. So I changed into the full Cool Running kit and Race Ready tri shorts.

While I did some kitchen and washing chores I had a banana and a small packet of chips. After an easy half an hour and being in the gear I felt like the run.

I started easily I finished quite strongly. Yesterday 6 km in 42 minutes and felt sore all the way. Today 6.2km in 35:38 and actually felt fine all the way - with some slight groin strain at 3-4km so running with in myself at the end.

Go figure.

Flicked The Watch - Westleigh 6.2km

Posted by plu, 35 minutes ago
Admin/Owner Options

Hi all,

6.2 km Westleigh run 40 minutes

Yesterday arvo I experienced this keynote address at a conference through Twitter. I know I have been sprouting it to my running friends but it really is a means of hyperconnection of the future. It is now. My experience is here for those interested.- nuff said.

Now I spent most of the day trying to herd the cats in the family - working out where they are, what they are doing over the next two weeks of our break. Roger the Dad of one of @ 15bs friends came over to pick up his son and he spotted my polar watch. I said here take it - I have had enough of being a slave to time. So he left with the watch , HRM and footpod to see if he likes it. I said keep it as long as he likes. Once they left I went for a run. First run since 2006 Six Foot Track with out a watch and first training run since I had no watch for the whole of 1993-1996. Anyway I headed out for a run in the heat of the afternoon and loved it.

Rest of the week

Out to Dural tonight for me and Ali- @15b is resting after 3 days of going out, and Jenny will be at the Mean Fiddler for a 10 reunion for her school tonight. I am taking Ali and a friend to Avoca tomorrow and coming back Monday. On Tuesday I will do a day trip to Avoca with John from Dural to move some furniture. Meanwhile Jenny ahd a school BBQ on Sunday, will be doing the school magazine on Monday and Tuesday. Hopefully we will be all togther at Avoca for the rest of the week except for Thursday when Jenny has an Executive meeting at school on Thursday.

I hope those who ran the Fitzroy Falls Marathon had a good run this morning.
