Upper Fern Tree Gully to Gembrook line
Location: Melways 188 A3
Comparison of my diagram to the Melways map will identify the site.
A fill or ballast siding existed on the up side of the line between Lakeside and Wright.
No official records exist of this siding. I presume it was opened and closed during construction. The site and the siding formation are easily discernible from the Lakeside end.
It is harder to see from the Wright end. If you visit the site beware of snakes.
Puffing Billy has no plans to re-open this siding. The rock was probably used for fill on embankmnts rather than ballast as it is poor quality sandstone. This siding is not mentioned by Downes.
