RACE REPORTS
The Newport Braybrook Club again held it’s Interclub Motocross at Broadford  on the 24th of June, with members of  the  Harley  Club invited .  The weather was kind to us after  some heavy rain in previous weeks. The track had been well watered the day before and was very slippery for practice. We had 7 senior riders  competing  on the day  in a variety of classes. A Harley Club members only race  was held for our Club Championship points midway through the day , with Michael Stoyanoski  hole shoting  the start . He held the lead until the last lap  when a slow starting  Chas Hern  managed to slip past for the win, with Ray Stevens filling third spot on his KTM.  Finishing order after Ray was- Dave Lowrie, Glenn Harris, Glenn Levens and Shane Levens. Numbers were down a bit compared to last years event but all who turned up had a good time. Ray was lucky to get through the Club race  though as later in the day his KTM rear hub exploded , damaging the sprocket and spokes in the process giving him a long push back to the pits and ending his day. Dave Lowrie was also lucky with a big get off late in the day. As he landed over one of the jumps, the back tyre gripped hard,  sending the front wheel up  and eventually  out from underneath Dave who hung on to the end.  No major injuries though with Dave back on to finish the race. Thanks to Newport for the invite  and we hope to see more Club members next year. The jumps have been softened  a bit  and is quite ok  for  riders who don’t  ride MX to much, so make a note to give it a try next time.

NATURAL TERRAIN  INTERCLUB MOTOCROSS

The Club ran  this style of event for the first  time in many years at the old “Channel 10”  track  at Broadford on August the 14th. The track was set out on the Saturday by  Dave Pell and Pete Hern  in good weather, but on Sunday the wind blew  all day  and with dust coming from a few guys practising on the Super cross Training track, made things a bit  rough all day. Thanks to those who turned up, but numbers were a bit disappointing  with 10 seniors, 4 juniors and 3 PeeWee and  1 Clubman rider. An area was set out for the non competitive riders who rode as much as they liked . We only had one senior race, combining both classes into one and one junior race,  alternating  for 4 laps each race.  With a slow start to the day,  racing was still finished by about 2.30 in the afternoon,  after 5  rounds being run.
The non comp riders were  given a few goes on the big track with Ray Stevens showing them the way around  ( with his new hub laced in thanks to Dave Pell). There were some  close races through the day with Ray  coming out on top in all five in the over 125cc two stroke/over 250 four stroke class with  Shaun Sandwith  from the Ballarat Club in second and Reg Friend from the Broadford Club third.  In the up to 125cc two stroke/up to 250cc four stroke class was  new member Billie Hicken in first and  Dave Carrington  from the Preston Club second.
Placings in  the junior 85cc class were first place Andrew James,  Jesse Larkin second, Ashley Day third and Jaymes Day fourth. Tara Wright and  Aaron Stevens rode in the Pee Wee class and Andrew Wright  was in the Clubman class
Thanks to John Lawrence and Ron Matthews (Preston Club) for flagging on the day, Keith and Marg Gibbo on the start line, Richard  Combley (Preston Club)  travelling marshal and Dave Pell, Robyn Wright and Ray Stevens for looking after the  Non competitive riders.
