The name Geelong comes from the Aboriginal word Jillong. Jillong means a place of the sea bird over the white cliffs.

Geelong is a diverse city that combines futuristic architecture and historic past. Geelong Botanical Gardens is a good example of this. The gardens have recently undergone some improvements, including a new entrance. Apart from the gardens, the waterfront has shared in the improvements and both now hold regular activities.

If arriving via train or bus, you'll notice the changes that have occurred at the Geelong Railway Station. A new bus shelter and the historic station.

Other attractions would included Kardina Park, the banks of the Barwon River, the shores of Corio Bay, the Geelong Goal, various lookouts, and community events.
