Geelong is the second largest city in Victoria, Australia. It is the
gateway between Melbourne and the Surf Coast, the Bellarine Peninsula,
the Great Ocean Road, and the Shipwreck Coast.
The name Geelong comes from the Aboriginal word Jillong. Jillong
means a place of the sea bird over the white cliffs.

Geelong is a diverse city that combines futuristic architecture and historic past.
Geelong Botanical Gardens is a good example of this. The gardens have recently
undergone some improvements, including a new entrance. Apart from the gardens, the
waterfront has shared in the improvements and both now hold regular activities.

As you drive into Geelong via the M1 (from Melbourne) you'll also notice the
rejuvenation of Melbourne Road and various city streets (Mercer, Ryrie, Little
Malop and James Streets). If arriving via train or bus, you'll notice the changes
that have occurred at the Geelong Railway Station. A new bus shelter and the historic
station.
Other attractions would included Kardina Park, the banks of the Barwon River, the
shores of Corio Bay, the Geelong Goal, various lookouts, and community events.
