Nazari is my secondary Living Greyhawk character, and the first that I seriously designed to be a Living Greyhawk character. That is, I mapped out her class, feat and skill progression from 1st to 15th level (characters retire from the campaign at 16th level), and I decided what meta-organisations she would join so that she can get the best benefits over time. I also did some web research so that she has a backstory (something I've had to build over time for Rooney, risking continuity errors and retcons as I go), and one that draws on the comparatively rich material about Baklunish history, gods and culture in the Greyhawk setting (mostly derived from Islam and the Arabian Nights).
I started with a strong sense of who she was and how I wanted to portray her to other players, and after more than fifty scenarios of play and character development those defining traits are now very well established. For example, I do more physical acting (such as clapping her hands together when excited or pleased) and less verbal banter than I do when playing Rooney. Nazari speaks in a hesitant, deferential manner; she isn't very brave, but she tries hard to do her best; she's a natural follower, not a leader. That's sometimes frustrating, particularly when there isn't another character taking on that leadership role or doing a good job as leader, but most of the time her passivity isn't a source of irritation.
Nazari also has much more interesting story elements coming out of her in-character relationships with other player characters. Most notably, she was part of a love triangle that developed over about a game year with Owain and Lord Aldric. Both men liked her and were liked in return: Owain was the "bad boy" who was seeing other women (but stopped doing that a while ago) and who got along with Nazari's parents (he's a weaponsmith, just like her father Jamal), while Lord Aldric was the "good boy" who's pure and chaste (he blushes at the slightest provocation). After half a year, Owain moved in with Nazari's family as a lodger and started working with her father in the smithy; three months later, Lord Aldric kissed Nazari (her first!) before staying behind in the past, 1500 years ago, so that the others could return to the present with the person they rescued. By the time Lord Aldric returned to the present, 3 months later, Owain and Nazari were engaged - and one year later, they're finally married.
Lots of fun!
