Necromancy (Healing)
Casting Time: 10 minutes
Range: Close
Target: One corpse
Duration: Instantaneous
Saving Throw: None; see text
Spell Resistance: No
Minimum Power Points: 11
XP Cost: 50 XP/Power point
You restore life to a deceased creature with Hit Dice equal to or less than
the Power points expended. The corpse can have been dead for no longer than
1 day per Power point expended (the protect
from decay spell lengthens this period). You call the individual creature
by speaking the name during the spell (though you might get a different creature
anyway if you don't use the creature's true name). In addition, the subject's
soul must be free and willing to return. If the subject's soul is not willing
to return, the spell does not work; therefore, a subject that wants to return
receives no saving throw.
Coming back to life is an ordeal. The subject of the spell suffers 2 points
of Constitution ability drain when it is restored to life and loses
Power equal to their current Magic Power. The creature has a number of Wounds
equal to the Power points expended to be restored to life. Any ability
scores damaged to 0 are raised to 1. Normal poisons and normal diseases are
cured in the process of raising the subject, but magical diseases and curses
are not undone. The condition of the remains is not a factor. So long as some
small portion of the creature's body still exists, it can be restored to
life, but the portion receiving the spell must have been part of the creature's
body at the time of death.
None of the dead creature's equipment or possessions are affected in any way
by this spell.
Creatures who have been turned into an undead creature and then destroyed, and
creatures who have been killed by a death effect require additional effort to
restore to life (see below). Creatures who have died of old age can
never be restored to life.
Restriction: Choose one type of living creature when you learn
this spell. This spell only works on creatures of that type. This spell must
be cast at night.
Heightened: An additional 4 Power points allows a creature
turned into an undead creature and then destroyed or a creature killed by a
death effect to be restored to life, but the XP cost increases to 100
XP/Power point.
