Potestas: a D&D3E supplement
Chapter Three: Classes
Bard (PHB)
A gifted performer whose music works arcane magic.
Description
Bards are capable of spontaneously casting arcane magic through their music.
While some bards follow the True Faith, very few are devout believers.
Game Rule Information
- Armour and Weapon Proficiency: bards are proficient with
all simple weapons plus the bow, longsword, rapier, sap and shortsword.
- Spells: bards have an intuitive understanding of a limited
number of arcane spells. They cannot learn spells in the way sorcerers can,
but do gain an intuitive understanding of additional spells as they advance
in level. All bardic spells must have a verbal component. To know or cast
a spell, a bard must have an Charisma score of at least 10 + the spell's level.
Bonus Spells and the Difficulty Class for saving throws against their spells
are based on the bard's Charisma.
- Spells Intuitively Known: as the Bard Spells Known table
on page 27 of the Player's Handbook.
- Devout Belief: any bard who takes the Devout Belief feat
or multiclasses as a mystic or paladin cannot progress in level as a bard
unless they lose their faith.
- Bardic Knowledge: bards gain a +2 bonus at 1st level to
all Knowledge skill checks because of their broad experience and dedication
to learning. This bonus increases by +1 at 3rd level and every three levels
thereafter.
- Evasion: bards gain Evasion as a special ability at 9th
class level. If the bard already has the Evasion special ability, they gain
Improved Evasion.
