Sorcerer (PHB)

Description

Sorcerers are inherently capable of spontaneously casting arcane magic. They are often descended from arcane creatures such as dragons, elves or giants. While some sorcerers follow the True Faith, very few are devout believers.

Game Rule Information

• Armour and Weapon Proficiency: sorcerers are proficient with all simple weapons.
• Skills: as the Player's Handbook wizard.
• Spells: sorcerers can learn any number of arcane spells, but have an intuitive understanding of a limited number of those spells. A sorcerer always automatically succeeds when spontaneously casting spells they intuitively know. To learn, prepare or cast a spell, a sorcerer must have a Charisma score of at least 10 + the spell's level. Bonus Spells and the Difficulty Class for saving throws against their spells are based on the sorcerer's Charisma.
• Spells per Day: as below. The sorcerer always has two spell slots of each spell level available that cannot be prepared. The "+2" on the table below represents that. These spells are in addition to any bonus spells for having a high Charisma or for specialising in a school of magic.
• Spells Intuitively Known: as below. The "1*" on the table below represents that the sorcerer intuitively knows one spell provided they have sufficient Charisma to have a bonus spell of that level.

• Spellcasting: sorcerers can spontaneously cast any spell they intuitively know, using either an unprepared spell slot or "losing" a prepared spell. They can also spontaneously cast any spell they know, but must make a Spellcraft check (DC 20 + spell level) to do so successfully. Finally, they can prepare any spell they know from a spellbook ahead of time, but cannot use their two mandatory unprepared spell slots for a prepared spell.
• Spells Known: as the Player's Handbook wizard. Learning a new spell requires the permanent allocation of character wealth equal to the cost of buying a scroll of that spell.
• Bonus Item Creation, Magic and Metamagic Feats: sorcerers get a bonus item creation, magic, or metamagic feat at 1st level, 2nd level, 5th level, and every five levels thereafter.
• Devout Belief: any sorcerer who takes the Devout Belief feat or multiclasses as a mystic or paladin cannot progress in level as a sorcerer unless they lose their faith.
