Potestas: a D&D3E supplement
Chapter Three: Classes
Specialist (DMG, was Expert, upgraded for PCs)
A skilled master of their areas of expertise.
Description
Specialists are artisans, professionals, and experts in their chosen fields.
Game Rule Information
- Class Skills: Craft (Int), Knowledge (all skills, taken
individually) (Int), Profession (Wis), plus ten other skills chosen at 1st
level. The specialist can change any or all of their then chosen class skills
at 4th level and every 4 levels thereafter to reflect their changing interests.
- Evasion: specialists gain Evasion as a special ability
at 9th class level. If the specialist already has the Evasion special ability,
they gain Improved Evasion.
- Skill Points at 1st Level: (8 + Int modifier) x 4.
- Skill Points at Each Additional Level: 8 + Int modifier.
- Bonus Feats: at 1st level, 2nd level and every two levels
thereafter, the specialist gains a bonus feat. This feat can be used to gain
either Skill Focus or Greater Skill Focus in one of their current class skills.
The specialist does not lose the benefit of the chosen feat if they change
their class skills at a later character level.
- Skill Mastery: the specialist grows increasingly capable
when using any of their specialist class skills. At 5th level, the specialist
can always choose to take 10 instead of making a skill roll (unless you can
never take 10 with the skill, such as Use Magic Device). At 9th level, the
specialist can roll twice (or roll once and take 10 on the other roll) and
keep the better result when making a skill roll. At 13th level, the specialist
can take 20 in half the usual time (usually 1 minute). At 17th level, the
specialist can take 20 in the time it would take to make a normal skill check
(usually 1 round).
