Chapter Three: Classes
Wuxia (PHB, was Monk)
A martial artist and master of esoteric natural abilities.
Description
There are monastic communities across Arda. Some are religious communities
devoted to the True Faith. Others are instead communities of people seeking
physical perfection through discipline, action, and contemplation - wuxia. They
train themselves to be versatile warriors, skilled at fighting without weapons
or armour. Through this training they seek to achieve a state of perfection
that is beyond mortality.
- Characteristics: the key feature of the wuxia is that they
can fight unarmed and unarmoured. Thank to their rigorous training, wuxia
can strike as hard and as fast as (or faster than) other combatants. Though
they do not cast spells, wuxia tap into a natural inner energy, called ki
in Khitai, which allows them to perform amazing feats.
- Religion: a wuxia's training is disciplined and structured,
but ultimately irreligious. While some wuxia follow the True Faith and some
follow the pagan gods, the great majority focus on the natural world and ki.
- Background: wuxia originated in Khitai, but the traditions
have long since spread east across Arda and are now known even in Selentia.
There are many different wuxia traditions that sometimes compete with each
other. All wuxia recognise each other as a select group set apart from the
rest of the world, but usually want to compete and see whose ki is
strongest rather than cooperate together.
Game Rule Information
- Weapon Proficiency: wuxia are proficient with all simple
weapons.
- Unarmed Strike: wuxia automatically gain the Flurry
of Blows and the Improved
Unarmed Strike feats at 1st level.
- Unarmed Damage: wuxia are skilled at using their ki
to inflict greater damage with their unarmed attacks. A wuxia's unarmed damage
increases by two steps at 1st level, and then increases by one step at 4th
wuxia level and every four levels thereafter (that is, three steps at 4th
wuxia level, four steps at 8th wuxia level, and so on). Damage shifts along
the following scale: 1d2 - 1d3 - 1d4 - 1d6 - 1d8 - 1d10 - 2d6 - 2d8 - 2d10.
- Ki Strike: wuxia are able to bypass Damage Reduction
as their unarmed damage increases. A wuxia's unarmed attacks can bypass DR/magic
when their damage has increased by three steps and bypass DR/adamantine when
their damage has increased by six steps.
- Sixth Sense: wuxia can anticipate attacks before they occur.
A wuxia adds their Wisdom bonus (if any) to Armour Class when wearing no armour.
This bonus increases by +1 at 5th level and every five levels thereafter.
- Fast Movement: wuxia have additional speed when wearing
no armour as long as they are not carrying a heavy load. A wuxia gains +10
feet enhancement bonus at 3rd wuxia level and every three levels thereafter.
- Bonus Combat Feats: wuxia get a bonus combat feat at 1st
level, 2nd level, 4th level, and every three levels thereafter.
- Evasion: wuxia gain Evasion as a special ability at 2nd
class level. If the wuxia already has the Evasion special ability and is 11th
character level or higher, they gain Improved Evasion.
- Improved Evasion: wuxia who are 10th character level or
higher may gain Improved Evasion as a special ability by spending a bonus
feat.

according to their class level.
