Abilities

Abilities represent the ability to do something that other people cannot do. Examples include being able to change into a werewolf, see through walls, or knowing a magic spell. Some Abilities have a modifier, but many Abilities confer special powers. Most Abilities have steps, where the character gains more advantages as they spend more points on the Ability: characters must obtain steps in sequence, and not jump or skip steps in an Ability. A character cannot know how to make a permanent magic item without knowing how to make ephemeral magic items.

When calculating the cost of an Ability, remember that if the Ability is limited or restricted in some way, the cost of the Ability is reduced in proportion with the scale of the limitation (to a minimum of 1 point). For example, a Centaur is half-Human, half-horse: any Ability that only affects the Centaur's Human half is likewise halved in cost. Damage Resistance gained while berserk usually applies in two out of three instances where Damage Resistance is used: it is reduced in cost by a third.
