Character Archetypes
Archetypes provide a useful template for the quick generation of characters.
Players may use an archetype to simplify their character's Skill development
and progression: the GM may require that all players use an archetype. Conforming
to an archetype requires 8 character points during the design process and commits
7 out of the 10 character points gained with each increase in Stature, so it
is easier to plan character development but there is still scope to tailor characters
and make them unique.
- Reckless and violent, the Crazed Warrior has difficulty
living a peaceful life and seeks danger and adventure. Concentrate on Physical
Characteristics, particularly Health and Fitness. Initially take +3 Attack,
+1 Defend, +1 Aim, +1 Dodge, +1 Initiative, and Berserk. For each +1 Stature
take +2 Attack, +2 Defend, +1 Aim, +1 Dodge, +1 Initiative. Upgrade Berserk
at regular intervals (e.g. Stature 3, 5 and 7).
- At home in the crowded cities, the Cunning Thief is a skilled
swashbuckler and cat-burglar. Concentrate on Reflexes and Intelligence. Initially
take +1 Attack, +1 Aim, +1 Dodge, +1 Climb, +1 Sneak, +1 Trick, +1 Tumble,
and +1 Unlock. For each +1 Stature take +1 Attack or Defend, +1 Aim or Dodge,
+1 Climb, +1 Sneak, +1 Trick, +1 Tumble, and +1 Unlock. Also improve Perception
regularly.
- A devout follower of the True Faith, the Noble Knight is
driven by honour and status to pursue a life of glory. Concentrate on Physical
Characteristics, particularly Strength and Health. Initially take +2 Attack,
+2 Defend, +1 Aim, +1 Dodge, +1 Initiative, and Faith. For each +1 Stature
take +2 Attack, +2 Defend, +1 Aim, +1 Dodge, and +1 Initiative.
- Servant or master of dark forces, the Pagan Sorcerer is
always searching for ways to harness greater power. Concentrate on Mental
Characteristics, particularly Intelligence. Initially take +1 Education, +1
Literacy, +1 Sorcery, Magic Talent, and 4 Spells. For each +1 Stature take
+1 Attack or Defend, +1 Aim or Dodge, +1 Sorcery, 4 Spells. Remember that
direct attack spells like Hurl Fire need good Aim to be effective.
- Attuned to the ebb and flow of nature, the Rural Mystic
understands the need for balance and reflection. Concentrate on Mental Characteristics,
particularly Willpower. Initially take +1 Defend, +1 Dodge, +1 Mysticism,
ESP, Magic Talent, and 3 Spells. For each +1 Stature take +1 Attack or Defend,
+1 Aim or Dodge, +1 Perception, +1 Mysticism, 3 Spells. Also improve Sneak
and Trick regularly if you want to confuse weak minds.
- Used to the wild animals and the wastes, the Solitary Hunter
knows the value of persistence and patience. Concentrate on Physical Characteristics,
particularly Reflexes and Fitness. Initially take +1 Attack, +1 Defend, +1
Aim, +1 Dodge, +1 Perception, +1 Sneak, +1 Track, and +1 Trap. For each +1
Stature take +1 Attack, +1 Defend, +1 Aim, +1 Dodge, +1 Perception, +1 Sneak,
and +1 Track. Consider specialising in Bow for improved ambushing and hunting
opportunities.
