Character Races
There are several sentient races on Selentia that characters can belong to.
Each has its advantages and disadvantages, some of which are Cosmetic Details
and others of which affect various game mechanics. Some races have a minimum
Stature of greater than 1: players in a campaign where the characters are beginning
at Stature 1 cannot belong to these races. When combining a race with an archetype,
treat characters with the minimum Stature for their race as Stature 1 for the
purpose of assigning points according to the archetype.
- Centaurs have the upper half of a Human and the body and
legs of a Horse. Most live out on the steppes among the Khanates of the East,
but Centaurs are common enough throughout the settled temperate lands of Selentia.
They live short lives of around fifty years. Minimum Stature 2 (10 points
committed): +2 Size, -6 STR in human half (human minimum -7, average +0, maximum
+7, horse minimum -1, average +6, maximum +13), +1 HTH (average +3, maximum
+10), +3 FIT (average +3, maximum +10), +1 Damage Resistance in horse
half, +1 Damage in horse half (Damage Threshold 5), +1 Enhanced Speed.
- Dwarves are short (average height 1.4m) and resemble Humans,
but live underground in the great mountains. Many are skilled smiths and metalworkers,
and some men (women and children never leave the safety of the mountains)
live on the surface in Human and Kattar communities. Dwarves can live for
two to three centuries, and can survive for long periods of time with little
food and drink. Minimum Stature 2 (10 points committed): -1 Size, +3 STR (minimum
-10, average +0, maximum +7), +3 FIT (average +3, maximum +10), +3
HTH (average +2, maximum +9), Dwarfsight, Fasting 1, Longevity.
- Elves are of average height (1.8m) and resemble beautiful
Humans with pointed ears and cat-like eyes. They are dangerous and magical
creatures, flighty and fickle, among the old pagan powers that dominated the
world before the revelation of the True Faith. Magic is a part of their nature:
Sorcery may have begun with the Elves (or the Dragons, or the God-Kings of
Kaikuhuru). Elves live for several centuries, and do not forget who they are
in the afterlife before they return to the world. Minimum Stature 3 (15 points
committed): +3 REF (average +3, maximum +10), Mysticism, Elfsight, ESP 1,
Immortality, Longevity, Magic Talent.
- Goblins are of average height (1.8m), but often have a
pronounced stoop from living underground in the mountains of Krarth. They
resemble gray or pallid Humans, but some have the pointed ears and cat-like
eyes of Elves. Their lives are brutal and violent, dominated by the constant
warfare their kings engage in on the kingdoms of the Humans, Dwarves and Elves
around them. Goblins can live for over two centuries, but very few have the
opportunity. Minimum Stature 1 (5 points committed): +1 STR (average +1, maximum
+8), +1 FIT (average +1, maximum +8), +1 HTH (average +1, maximum +8),
Elfsight, Longevity.
- Humans are of average height (1.8m). They dominate the
temperate parts of Selentia, but have spread to cover the world from the arctic
conditions of Mercania to Batubatan and Mungoda in the tropics. Humans rarely
live for more than a century. Minimum Stature 1 (0 points committed).
- Kattar are of average height (1.8m) and resemble feline
Humans, with short golden-brown fur over their bodies and the face and ears
of a cat. They come from the tropical lands of Batubatan and the peninsula
of Minj, but Kattar merchants and traders can be found much further to the
north in the temperate Human lands. Like Humans, Kattar rarely live for more
than a century. Minimum Stature 1 (0 points committed).
- Mercanians are tall (average height 3m) and resemble blond
or red-haired Humans, but live in the far north where it is usually cold and
snows for much of the year. They dislike warm weather, and rarely travel south
to the tropics. The blood of the Giants runs in their veins, and they are
easily roused to violent and excessive emotions. Mercanians live for one and
a half to two centuries. Minimum Stature 2 (10 points committed): +2 Size
(STR minimum -1, average +6, maximum +13, HTH average +2, maximum +9), +2
FIT (average +2, maximum +9), Berserk 1, +6 Damage Resistance against
cold and ice, -6 Damage Resistance against fire and heat, Longevity.
- Mungodans are of average height (1.8m), and resemble reptilian
Humans with dark-patterned scales over their bodies and the hairless head
of a lizard. They dominate the equatorial jungles of tropical Mungoda, and
are rarely found elsewhere. Like Humans, Mungodans rarely live for more than
a century. Minimum Stature 1 (0 points committed).
