Movement

There are three categories of movement: running, swimming and flying. All creatures may travel fluidly and rapidly in one category without having any extra Abilities (running for land animals, swimming for aquatic animals, flying for birds). Creatures can still move in a second environment, but your movement is awkward and slow (e.g. seals on land, Humans in water, birds on land). The Movement Ability allows a creature to move fluidly in a second category (e.g. a Pegasus, which can fly or run without impediment).

For each movement category there are three settings: Normal, Fast, and Top Speed. Creatures can move a certain distance in a Round depending on their Size and their physical capability (the average of STR and REF). Creatures without the Movement Ability for a particular category must divide their speed by six (6) when determining how far they can move in a Round. The furthest distance a creature can jump also equals their speed divided by six (6).

Normal Speed (e.g. walking) is 6m per round for a creature of average Size. Because Normal Speed depends on your stride or stroke, creatures with greater or lesser Size double or halve their normal speed for each doubling of Size (i.e. +3 or -3 Size). The Reduced Movement Ability further modifies Normal Speed: each point of Reduced Movement adds to the base divisor of 1.

Fast Speed (e.g. running) is (2 x Normal Speed) + physical capability). Stride and stroke are still important when moving at fast speeds, but physical strength and coordination have a significant impact as well. Because Size has already been taken into account when determining Normal Speed, STR gained or lost because of Size is not taken into account when calculating the physical modifier.

Top Speed (e.g. sprinting) is 2 x Fast Speed. Creatures with the Enhanced Speed Ability (e.g. many four-legged animals that are built for running) are even faster, and add every point of Enhanced Speed to the multiplier of 2.
