Perth Rocks News
Perth Rocks !!!
After almost six years of providing a free community service for the lovers
of 40's, 50's & 60's Rock'n'Roll, Rockabilly and Swing music, especially to
the dancing crowd, it is time to devote our time to other things.
Perth Rocks has been archived by Pandora, a national library of electronic
publications of cultural significance, and so data from the past, will
remain available for posterity. Our videos of bands and dancers got a
million hits on YouTube, and the website about a thousand hits every week.
Our original aim was to present a centralised information source about
dancing gigs, music venues and bands, and try and unite a very fragmented
scene. Perth may be a growing city of almost two million people, but on
their own, the swing, rockabilly and rock'n'roll crowds are very small, and
if they choose to remain insular are unlikely to survive over time.
Now there are many more data sources than when we started six years ago - a
plethora of websites and Facebook pages provide basically the same
information, though not centralised.
As for uniting a fragmented scene, despite some degree of cross-over, not
much changed on that front.
We will administer the Perth Rocks Facebook group so members can
themselves continue to post gigs, photos and videos there.
website will remain as is (with no further updates) for historical purposes.
So folks, it has been fun while it lasted, but nothing lasts for ever and it
is good bye and good luck from us.
