This section will include my own conclusions I have drawn on a number of issues that I consider important in audio. This will be based both on my own experience and experiments but also on information collated on the internet. Part of the purpose of this page is to generate healthy debate and discussion. This is a big part of my approach to learning in audio - discussion, debate, posing questions and theories and doing simulations and subjective listening tests.

There is a lot of information available on the internet and there are a lot of experts far more qualified than I am to deal with these issues - I will leave "presenting the facts so you can make your own informed decision" to those experts! Here you are more likely to find "this is what I think and here is my reason ..." I like it that way as there will be many who will disagree and some of them will argue for a different point of view, and sometimes I will end up changing my mind after seeing another point of view.

Some topics I intend to look into include:

Time Alignment and loudspeaker phase issues

Is time alignment really worth the effort?

Room acoustics - getting a system to work in the room, not an anechoic chamber

Can you really simulate room gain and allow for it in design? Factors I consider important in designing a room and the sound system to work together

Speaker types

This is my take on the advantages and disadvantages of different speaker types

My Ultimate Speaker project

Includes theory to demonstrate why this is "the ultimate speaker." In reality there is no such thing, this is "ultimate" as defined by my priorities and preferences.

Speaker Comparison Matrix

This is an attempt to make a table to account for all that you ask for in a speaker and to use it as a basis for comparing different speaker types

Speaker construction

Going beyond conventional construction. Includes details. Discussion of my "begin with the end in mind" approach.
