CD player
I'm still using a CD player that came with a mini system I was given as a gift over 10 years ago. I have no intention of upgrading until I get a DVD player which will replace it for music. I may consider getting a D/A converter for my future DVD but I'm not convinced at the moment that there will be a worthwhile improvement. The way I see it, it's not worth spending a lot of money on something that requires a blind AB test to determine if there is any difference! If you need that test to determine a difference, then you haven't added anything that you are likely to notice without listening for it.
Pre/power Amplifiers
DIY preamp & 70 watt chip amplifier using Elliott Sound Products PCB's
This is work in progress - haven't got it to work yet!
NAD 2200 power amp
This is work in progress - it blew up a few weeks after I got it on ebay and I need to get it repaired!
I'm currently borrowing an Akai 20 year old amp - AM-U33. I didn't expect much of this amp, but much to my surprise it is actually more pleasant to listen to than my NAD 2200. It can't compete with the NAD in sheer power and dynamic headroom. The bass in the NAD is also a lot better.
Main speakers
D'Apollito configuration TL speakers - my first completed DIY project. I'm very pleased with the result. This was to be my "ultimate speaker." What I didn't realise was that this was to become my springboard into other things.
