A Token System
In Australia, the term “freeform” was coined for a subset of Live Action Role Play (LARP) games, often run at conventions. An accurate definition of this term is still very much open for discussion. Freeforms are usually run as one-off events; with a great deal of work being done to ensure all players have interesting roles to play in the plots.
Players are usually given character sheets with personality traits, rules and objectives. There has been no specific system adopted for freeform play, so each game tends to come with it's own rules. Occasionally a freeform may be a part of a longer, ongoing story, and there have been a number of examples of excellent freeform campaigns that have gone on for years.
A Token System is my attempt to codify some of my own rules that have come into play in freeform scenarios I have written. The complete rulebook is still a work in progress, and I do not as yet have a final release date. An applied version of the basic rules can be seen in the Archangels game.
