What We Do

Power Assist is a volunteer based, 'not for profit' organisation focussed on personal development and building the self esteem of people who are intellectually disabled, or otherwise disadvantaged, by providing sporting opportunities, primarily through basketball.

We do this by focusing on building the self respect, physical wellbeing, and confidence of the disabled and disadvantaged people who we have contact with via our various programs.

Our programs include The Victorian Championship Basketball Competition and various special education programs that we run from time to time with the aim of fostering healthy and fulfilling lifestyles for the participants and to provide opportunities to further develop social, numerical and communication skills.

We also play an active role in the Victorian teams who compete in the Ivor Burge National Championships each year.  The Ivor Burge National Championships are run by Basketball Australia and showcase the best of Australia's intellectually disabled basketball talent.  The Australian teams are selected from players who compete at this competition each year.

As a feeder program into the Victorian teams, we also run the Power House Basketball Club Development Squad.  The squad meets once a month to be coached in general basketball skills by one of our very experienced group of coaches.  Many players who have attended the development squad have gone on to play for Victoria and some have even represented Australia at the Paralympic games and other international competitions around the world!
