Simple Text
Choose the Text tool
Click the cursor where you want to place the text.
Type
Commit the text by        Tick on options bar
                       
            “Enter” on numerical key pad
                       
            Change tool

Type Options Bar        Review details nb Warp icon and Character / Paragraph palette toggle on RHS

Change Horizontal to Vertical Text        Icon on menu bar

Type Layer

New text layer is created for each new piece of text
Choose the type to edit by targeting its layer bar and then clicking in the text
Select all the text  on the layer by double clicking the T icon
Move selected text (cursor has changed to the move tool cursor) by left click and hold near the text
Also you can move the text while typing by moving the cursor away from the live text until the cursor changes to the move tool and dragging
Ctrl while typing gives a transform box to reshape or rotate
Shift click Text tool and always get a new text layer rather than adding to a previous layer

Paragraph text
The type automatically wraps to fit the size of the text box.
Text remains editable despite  eg rotating the box.

Styles
With Text layer active:    Layer / Styles    Make a choice
Layer Styles                    Layers/Layer Styles  or  double click blue layer bar
                                       Make choices and edit as needed

Rasterize Type 
If you are sure that you will make no more changes to your text, you can rasterize it. This means that you will change the text from something that can be edited (the vector outlines that form the text and the effects) into pixels that you can edit only by painting or filtering.
To change the layer into pixels,         click Layer / Rasterize.
(“T” thumbnail changes and can’t edit the text but you can use filters and change styles)

Check Spelling            Rt click on selected text  (and review other options)

New text     from other applications    Copy and Paste text from eg  “Word”

H & Vert Type Mask Tool            Becomes a selection when committed

Change font of selected text
Target text layer (or multiple selected text layers)    
Double click T thumbnail to select the text
Turn off  View /  Extras.  So you can see the text without the selection highlighting
Highlight font name in Formatting bar
Use up and down arrow keys to view different fonts "live".
Turn on View /  Extras.

Font Preview in Font dropdown box    Edit / Preferences / Type / Font Preview   Tick

Text Presets            Make a preset for repeated jobs

Warping Text    eg for text on a bottle label    Either:-
1.         Warp Text icon on menu bar    
2.        a)         Create text and commit it
           b)         Convert to a Smart Object    Layer/Smart Objects/Convert to Smart Object
           c)         Edit / Transform / Warp
          d)         Commit transformation
This distorts a bitmap so you might get jagged edges.
3.     a)         Create Text
       
b)         Layer / Type / Convert to shape  (ie Bezier curves)
       
c)         Edit / Transform / Warp
      
d)         Manipulate  nodes and lines  -  get clean edges.

Marquee Selection of Text outline
             Ctrl+click on “T” thumbnail
   (To use the selection on another layer)
           
Turn off visibility of the text layer
           
Target another layer
           
Eg  fill text selection             Can use    eg View / Show / Selection Edges on or off.

Text contained inside a Preset Shape

Dynamic Letter Spacing
       Open Character palette
       Click icon for eg Leading.  Value is highlighted
       Up & Down arrows change the value and result is previewed
       Shift down get changes x10

Change colour of one or more characters        Select individual characters
Default text colour is current foreground colour

Layer Styles        As desired

Select all text while creating it.        Ctrl + A

Character Palette
Format  highlighted text
TT makes it upper case
Try altering other properties
(Ctrl + Enter or Enter on Numerical K/B commits text)

 

Area text
Click and drag text tool        Get wrap and easy resize of text “box”
                                           Alt down while dragging, then  release mouse to get  a box size dialog box

 

Text (or a preset shape} filled with one image on top of another image
"Clipping:: --  Cut a shape out of a background image and see another image in the shape
Three layers
                       
Top               Image to fill shape
                       
Middle _          Shape (text)(not path)
                       Bottom_           Background Image


           
Alt + click between top and middle layer thumbnails      Clipping


           
Move top layer to suite for shape content
           The text is still editable

Create text in PS , select and copy it.
Open “Illustrator”
New document with same colour B / G
Paste text
Window / Type / Glyphs
Show   Entire Font  or  Alternatives for current selection
Double click on highlighted swatch
Select all and Copy
Open Photoshop
Paste altered text back.

f)          Drawing with Type

Scan black signature on white B / G
Add as a new layer over “art”
Change layer blend mode to Multiply
White background disappears.

(Hold Alt down, type 0169 on numerical keyboard and release Alt)
Type  ©  on a new layer


Ctrl down  to get transform box              enlarge - position etc.
Layer Style       Bevel and Emboss        default or your values
Set layer palette  Fill = 0

Vary the layer opacity and position the sign

i)    Logo Text on a Circle
