* Curious about your family history?
* Need advice on how to get started?
* Wondering what resources are available on the Internet?
I can help you!
These webpages offer research tips, links to useful websites, and a gallery of Victorian & Edwardian family photos.
Some tips for the beginner:
* Start with yourself! Gather information about your birthplace & that of siblings; obtain your birth certificate; write a short biography of your life; ask your parents, grandparents, uncles & aunts about their lives, etc.
* Obtain your parents' marriage certificate for your mother's maiden name, marriage date & place, ages, occupations, places of birth, their parents' names & occupations, etc.
* Continue searching back one generation at a time, obtaining your parents' birth certificates, grandparents' marriage certificates, etc.
* Note there is less value in death certificates as research tools due to the fact that they depend on a reliable informant for details of the deceased person's life. However, they do supply information such as age at death (gives an approx. date for birth), birthplace, occupation, children (issue), etc.
* Visit, & preferably join, any local family history/genealogy societies in your area (or become a country member & take advantage of distance research assistance). This will give you access to records you need & plenty of helpful advice.
* It is very important in family history research to prove each step so you don't bark up the wrong tree!
*See my Links page for useful websites that will help you along the way.
