The JARCAT FIVE (16') & JARCAT SIX (20') have similar layout & features.

Cross-Section Of the JARCAT SIX

Very comfortable seating position while working the galley.

The JARCAT SIX is the best trailer-sailer available.

Light for easy trailing and sparkling performance, motoring or sailing to 15knots. (425kg)

Quickest construction method for achieving the light weight. (Fibreglass moulding is quicker but leads to a very heavy boat.) There are some great ideas in the plans to speed the construction while removing some of the skills and effort needed with other chined designs. The ply skin over a timber / ply frame then covered in thin cloth leads to minimal fairing prior to painting. The chines are planed into a smooth round form.

Long lasting with minimum maintenance. The early JARCATS are 20 years old and still going.

Ease of launch - retrieve. Back in until the rear-most roller touches the water & let the J6 roll off the trailer. The guides make retrieving just as simple.

Rigging is made easier by having a roller support the mast above the transom and a relatively short mast. The mast base is at knee height and pinned. Simply stand aft in the cockpit and push the mast vertical. The side shrouds are never removed. The forestay is tensioned using a turnbuckle or laced with spectra line. ( If you use a reefing furler then simply shackle it on then cleat the halyard.)

The berths are big and very comfortable.

The cockpit is big with seats along both sides of the wide floor. Big enough for a card table with room to move.

A small motor will propel either the J5 or J6. I have used a 2hp on both. I would expect the solar-electric option to be quite practical. There is plenty of room for the panels and a small motor will propel the boat. The J6 can carry 2 or 3 deep cycle batteries.
