On the second day of our trip we travelled to Arthurs Pass, which links East and West Coasts

This is a spectacular area, with massive mountains crowned by glaciers, and with great walks and climbs. Below is a series of photos that begin from the bottom of Devil's Punchbowl, a 'hung valley' created when a glacier carves out a U shaped valley, and in the process cuts aother higher glacier cut valley that then sits suspended well up in the mountains. As we climbed Mt Avalanche, we marked our height and our distance by looking back at Devils Punchbowl, on the other side of Arthurs Pass. Check it out below.
