| Statement |
| I am a “re-emerging” artist who attended Caulfield Institute Art School,
in the late 70’s and have continued art practice through to completing an MEd in Visual Art
in 2002, in Perth. I have travelled extensively in Australia and many Asian countries with
3 years in both Europe and India. I have held annual solo shows in Perth and Melbourne for the last 6 years. I have always found a great peace during my art-making and in my work I use this experience as my main underlying theme. Some of my paintings reflect experiences of a form of intuition where it feels that the painting almost paints itself. Others may begin with a goal in mind but are still essentially and strongly influenced by intuition. A process I call “intuitive abstraction” creates a timeless, expansive and very real sense of self during my art-making. Painting for me is a timeless, expansive and energising experience. I use some of my art also as statements about political and international peace. When I feel deeply about issues in my life these are also expressed automatically through painting. The titles of the works give some insights into my thoughts and experience and attempt to add to the experience of the viewers. One of my main inspirations was my involvement with The Women’s Art Forum in Melbourne, in the late 70’s and early 80’s. Diverse art and understandings of art practised by members if this group throughout their lives, while supporting partners, families and being part of larger community based movements, have encouraged my continuance of art practice. I have also always had a strong interest in the subjective or spiritual experiences that artists can have at times during their art-making. I also believe that the expansion of consciousness experiences for both the artist and viewer is one of the underlying attractions of art. My art represents a junction point between my inner personal subjective and my life. I find beauty and peace through what may appear as abstraction. I present a range of images that often represent tension between opposites and others that are about creating an abstract space that encourage a restful, peaceful space and silent few moments of time. |
