Counselling Services
The Secret Harbour Counselling Service generally use “systems-based"
approaches to counselling. Such approaches take into account a whole range
of factors that contribute to particular problems presented by clients. These
techniques have proved to be both fast and effective in resolving a whole
range of issues. Where appropriate, cognitive and behaviour methods are also
employed.
The practice also uses techniques from brief therapy. The aim of brief therapy
is to make as great an impact or change as possible in the shortest time.
This is a recognition of two important facts: that most people tend to only
go to therapy for a relatively brief time and the financial cost of long term
therapy is very high. It has our experience that significant changes can be
made in the management of most personal and relationship problems in four
to six sessions. This is not denying, however, that some issues require long
term therapy.
