planned, with some practices on Saturday followed with racing on the
Sunday. Hopefully we will get more events than this year.
"Good luck to Harley Club member Brad Burns who
is off to the National Dirt Track Championships in Albury"
Hi everyone,
The SSRAV have released their race days for 2009/2010.
They want dirt track bikes to run as a support class at Broadford
(seniors only).
Anyone interested will need to be a member of the SSRAV and display
their numbers in their back.
We will race 6-8 at a time in the speedway and start from the tapes.
Entry fees will be the same as dirt track, but you will need to
nominate to me the day before.
My number is 0416 071 649.
Thanks
Nick Beale
Speedway dates at Broadford are as follows
Nov 1
Nov 14
Nov 28
Jan 24
Feb 14
Feb 21
March 21
April 18
Albury-Wodonga are running the Australian Senior Dirt Track
Championships on 24th October and entries close on the 12th. There will
be Junior support races, so get your entry in soon. AWMCC run a good
meeting so try and give them support. for supp regs click
here
Dirt track at Broadford is still on hold as the wet weather is holding
up maintenance on the track which started after our last race day in
May.
We apologize for the lack of meetings this year, but it is out of our
hands.
Dates are being set for next year and will be put up as soon as
possible. Seventeen days have been set for dirt track at Broadford for
2010 and will be split up between race and practice days.
Noel Clarke, one of our long time dirt trackers, has been involved in a bad accident recently and has
suffered very serious injuries.
We don't have a great deal of information as yet, but will keep you posted. Our thoughts are with Noel,
his daughter Taylah and his family.
Dirt track riders please note: The dirt track practice day on Sunday the 13th has been cancelled,
but their is a practice day at Undera the same day.
In case anybody missed seeing "King Kenny " Roberts riding his legendary TZ 750 Flat tracker,
there are more clips of him in action a couple of weeks ago at the Indy
Mile on the "Harley club videos" page.
The Broadford Dirt track scheduled for this
30th of August has been cancelled.
New dates will be
announced if or when available.
Sorry for any confusion
Due to more wet weather, the dirt track practice day for the 23rd has been cancelled.
This is the 3rd time we have had to put dirt track off as John Coleman still hasn't
been able to grade the new soil out. We have still got a race day scheduled for the 30th,
but if there is more wet weather through next week, this also will be called off.
The dirt track group is working on a new program for next year which will hopefully get
more meetings earlier in the year when it is normally drier.
For those wanting to do the Vic dirt track Titles at Albury-Wodonga,entries can be downloaded
from here or the MV website. Get them in soon.
We also wish Mich Bartlett and Joel Pearson speedy recoveries from recent accidents.
Both had serious injuries.
Chas is really getting his 600 sorted out, he's
going well
Unfortunately the track was not able to be repaired in time for the open practice this weekend, so
the event will go ahead without dirt track.
"Despite the dirt track practice being cancelled the junior coaching will still go ahead"
Junior coaching Day
Peter Hern is organizing a junior coaching day, Darryl Hiddle will
be running it, anyone who is interested in there kids getting the
yellow log book, or doing the coaching hours to renew there licence
this year to get in touch with me before Wednesday on 9716 2590.
Membership fees now due
membership is now overdue for 2009 - 2010. It was due on the 1st

The Broadford Bike Bonanza was a great success
with some amazing machines tracking to the various tracks over the
weekend.
A special thanks to the Harley Club members who volunteered Nick Beale President of the Harley Club of Victoria.

DIRT TRACK PRACTICE DAY
We had a meeting with a number of blokes willing to help out at
the Dirt Track this year, It looks like we will have a lot more
helpers thank goodness, a practice day has been organized for the
weekend of the 22nd of March.
Some good news to report
Club member Kerry
lost her precious '74 Bonnie she had owned for 28 years,
Peter was contacted by someone who said they had a bike to
give to anyone who had lost a road bike that wasn't insured.
He told them about Kerry and he said to come and pick it up for her.
Peter picked it up this week and surprised her with the new wheels.
The generosity from everyone has been truly amazing and Peter would
like to thank Geoff from Longwood for this amazing gesture.
The bike is a brand new Yamaha V-Star 650.
The smiles say it all.
We're really happy for you Kerry.

Historic donation to bushfire appeal
The Historic Motorcycle Racing Association of Victoria (HMRAV) has
decided to donate its gate takings from its Victorian Historic BEARS
and F2 Sidecar Championship event to the Victorian Bushfire Appeal,
with a minimum $6,000 donation.
The event will be held at the State Motorcycle Sports Complex at
Broadford on the April 4th and 5th and celebrates classic motorcycle
racing, incorporating sidecars and solos from 1919 to 1980, BEARS solo
racing and modern Formula 2 sidecars.
The HMRAV would also like to invite all bushfire survivors to the
event free of charge, to enjoy a day of motorcycle racing and walk
amongst the machines.
Tickets will be distributed through the effected areas via local
community groups and the CFA. The HMRAV would like the Broadford APEX
and Broadford Scouts groups for their assistance.
The HMRAV, with the assistance of Motorcycling Victoria, Motorcycling
Australia, www.mcnews.com.au, Australian Motorcycle News, will promote
the event to boost the gate and provide a larger donation.

Honda Broadford Bike Bonanza gala dinner filling fast
Book your seat for the night of nights
Saturday evening, April 11 2009, will be the chance to unwind, don
some smart clothes, and enjoy fabulous food, wine and illustrious
company under a fully-lined marquee in the centre of the Broadford
complex.
The evening will commence with pre-dinner drinks prior to moving into
the marquee itself, where dinner will be served from 7.30. This will
consist of a professionally-catered four-course meal, with drinks
provided by the award-winning Tahbilk Wines.
Following the meal, our guest of honour for the weekend, 1969 World
250cc Champion Kel Carruthers, will take the stage to recount details
from his fabulous career.
This began in Australia in the 1950s and took him to total domination
of the local scene, before moving overseas to a world title and two
Isle of Man TT victories.
After retiring from racing in the mid-1970s, Kel’s legendary tuning
skills and vast experience became the critical factor in guiding first
Kenny Roberts, and later Eddie Lawson, to World 500cc Championship
titles.
He remained firmly connected to the sport until last year, when he
decided to retire and enjoy events such as the Broadford Bonanza and
others around the world.
Individual dinner bookings are $110 fully inclusive, or $1000 for a
table of ten. Dress is smart casual.
The seating is strictly limited to 250 people and the dinner is sure
to be a sell-out, so book your spot now for the social occasion of
what will undoubtedly be a memorable weekend.
For further details contact the event secretary, Peter Drakeford, on
0422 299 003.

Round 1 of the 2009 Australian Superbike
Championships
I guess everybody is well and truly aware of the tragic bushfires
that are sweeping through Victoria, unfortunately a lot of our friends and
members of the Harley club past and present live around Kinglake and Flowerdale
a lot of them have been affected , good news is that, so far we know,
Our former St John Lady Bev
Bob and family
Ray,Ray's Mum, Kelly & Kids
Gibbo, Robyn & Kids
Vicky, Nigel & Kids
Garry, Karen & kids
Kerry, Ray & Bonnie
Grant Dianne, Yipp & Samantha
are all ok, but a lot of these families have suffered massive
property damage.
We'll keep you up to date as we find out more.
We really feel for you, we're relieved you are safe .
If
anybody can help with these items
Generators, leads and gerry cans are needed by those with houses
staying on the mountain until power is restored. If any members can
help could they ring Pete Hern on 9716 2590.
Chas's 2009 test at Phillip
Island
Chas just got back from a 2 day test at Phillip Island. he received his new
bike the day before leaving and with Chris and Rod working over time
getting the wheels and fairings painted, the twins were ready for
there first outing together.
Chas wanted to thank Marty from Underground designs for the pile of stickers,
Bandit Tyre warmers for getting him heated up on the track. Also RC
Motor sport for the support, Kirk McCarthy award, Mobil, EK Chains and
Phil Tainton for the help over the weekend.
The word legend gets thrown around too often these days,
but when it came to Bert Flood I think nothing could be
more true, everything he touched was a success, it's very
sad to see him go, but he and his achievements will never be
forgotten, our thoughts are with his family and friends.
Thanks Pete for keeping us up to date with this info.
There is a Dirt Track survey on the MA website (
www.ma.org.au
).
This has been as a result of the forum last year, so jump on and fill it
out, it isn't going to be on for much longer and will give them some
feed back.
Practices will be going ahead, but we're not able to have one this
month unfortunately. Dates will be fixed soon, but again we need a few
extra heads on the management committee to add some more ideas. It's
not all that hard. Most of the time there is a meeting every month at
the MV office, but it can also be at some ones house, factory or shop
if that's easier.

will be staying in the clubhouse ( check out the pics click

With the trouble we had last year with St Johns, dirt track
race meetings
haven't been organized yet. The alternative first aid services
are more expensive so we need to sort some things out, can't keep
putting the price up to race. We are also desperate for some licensed
officials and people willing to help out. There has been one suggestion
made but we need feed back. Our 1st cub meeting for the year is on
January 27th, so come along and chuck some ideas around. As I
said late
last year, without officials and helpers we can't put meetings
on.
This has been going on for a while with no solution and it needs to
be solved now.
INFORMATION BELOW IS FROM 2008
Latest improvement to the club shed
The Harley club shed , now has a concrete floor , Saturday workers were
up at the property for the first concrete truck at 7am with about 8
wheel barrows ready and waiting. A great effort by all saw the job done
in quick time, then a break while it went off enough to do the
finishing. Barney and Fish ( the experts ) did an excellent job and
with the helicopter used for the final finish, we have a top quality
shed floor ready for the next step. Thanks to Barney, Fish, Mick, John
L, Jim, Guesty, Dave, John B, Pete, Ray, Rob and John C who all helped.
Dave's been busy again turning out
the latest newsletter, a good read , make sure you take the time
to have a look, click here
Racing news
The last dirt track for the year was the Harley / Viper combined
meeting on the 30th .The Viper (pre '85 and evolution motocross club
) have joined us for the last 4 years to give there guys a go at dirt
track following the end of there MX season. This years event was again
a great day with the normal Harley classes and 3 specific Viper classes
as well. Good numbers in most classes provided some great racing with
battles going on all through the field. There were 5 or 6 riders up the
front who were constantly passing and re-passing, providing great
entertainment for the spectators. Thanks to Anthony Coxon and the boys
from Viper for there support.
Important club matters
Steve Guest has had to stand down as sports secretary. This means that
we have no-one in charge of competition stuff for the club. It cannot
be done by the few people we have left, and was a struggle this year
with who we had. This doesn't mean that we will have smaller race days,
it means that race days will NOT HAPPEN NEXT YEAR unless we get some
guaranteed helpers. The club needs a Sports secretary, and some
licensed officials. The minimum key officials we need are a Steward and
Clerk of Course. Operational officials we need are Scrutineer, Time
Keeper/scorer and Starter and we also need flaggies. These are the
minimum we need for a race day. To be an official you need to do a
course with Motorcycling Victoria, which isn't hard and the Club will
pay the costs. No dates will be set for next year unless these people
are in place and guaranteed. It has been a hard year for Steve and Pete
with the few die-hards on the day, and we have been making this point
clear all through the year. It is up to those who want to race, to be
responsible. If we get a few of each then the load can be shared. If
you are interested, give Pete Hern a ring. We will try and post the
relevant rules for officials from the MA rule book on the website.
We will also attempt to get a newsletter out before Christmas with
member cards for all those who have paid there subs, sorry for the
delay. If you're not sure about being financial, again give Pete Hern a
ring.
Working Bee
We will be doing the concrete in the shed this Saturday, with the first
truck arriving at 7.00 am sharp. We would like some people, preferably
with shovel, gumboots and a wheel barrow, to give a hand if they could
( make sure you bring some drinks and food ). Ring Pete Hern on 9716
2590 if you can help out. A number of us will be staying up there on
Friday night to get an early start. There will be drinks at the end of
the day.
New President for HCV
We had our last meeting for the year on Tuesday which included the AGM.
Unfortunately not many turned up, but we now have a new President, Nick
Beale, Nick is a fairly new member, but put his hand up and is now head of
the Harley Club.
Thank you to outgoing President Steve Guest
Steve Guest had been
President for a number
of years and is still
the sports secretary
and MV delegate, thanks
for your service to the

Dirt Track
The dirt track practice had to be
cancelled due to bad weather and it
looked like the Viper/HCV dirt track
next weekend was going the same
way when St Johns cancelled on us,
but we have managed to get another
medical crew, a lot more expensive
though. This means that we will
have to add another $10 to the entry
fee like we had to at the last
dirt track. It is annoying, but the
alternative is to not run race
meetings at all as we can't afford to
lose money every time.
Thanks Peter for sending in these great Google images
of Dirt tracks from around Australia
The next club meeting will be the AGM, so all positions are up for election for those interested.
You must be a financial member to vote. Please make an effort to turn up.
Adam bond raced at the speedway track at Parwan ( just south of Bacchus Marsh) on Saturday the 15th, we'll let you know
how he went as soon as results come in.
The next dirt track practice is on the 23rd, with the final race for the year on the 30th.
This is the annual Harley Club/ Viper meet.
There will be most of the normal classes as well as the Viper boys mix of pre 90s classes. Sign in from 7.45am.
Steve Guest and Peter Hern recently went to a forum run by MA on Dirt Track racing in Australia,
There are a number of issues that were brought up and we may have a survey for riders to fill out at the next
couple of meetings.

Anybody planning on going to the Dirt track practice day scheduled for the 19th,
please check with the Broadford info line ( 5784 4163) as there may not be a

you head up there.
Also Subscriptions were due on the 1st of July, there are a lot of people not
financial, so please pay your membership fees if you want to stay a member, we value your support.
A reminder, there is also a race meeting on the 26th, the last round of the North- South
series, so don't miss out.

The 8 lap race was reduced to 7.
Good to see the Harley club represented, Chris Trounson {started 7th"} with Chas Hern

Great result against some really tuff competition.

Update from Chas
Hi all,
There will be a short wait on the Hughie Hoare race report as I'm off to Phillip Island
in 20 minutes for some testing, then straight off to Eastern Creek for 2 days of testing.
Incase you haven’t heard we didn’t win the Hughie and with that did not finish the feature event.
Both Cameron and I won every heat race and Cameron broke the out right lap record for Broadford,
but after I lead most of the race there was a major cock up in the rider change. Team Woodstock
was let out 5 Seconds earlier than Cameron and he was forced to catch up. Cameron pulled back
the gap to Trounsan in 3 laps clocking the fastest lap of the race but with 5 laps to go Cameron
lost grip in the front end and crashed out.
We both enjoyed the weekend and with some major OT the Mick Hone/RC racing Suzuki GSXR 1000
is back on track and ready for the GP.
Hope to see you all at the GP.

Harley Club Road Mystery Ride
A reminder to club members, Sunday 12th October
is the club road ride, Red plates {Club Rego} catered for
everybody welcome even if you follow in your
car, now the weather is starting to improve hopefully it should be a
nice day.
The ride starts from the Service station in Whittlesea
at 10am.
Cameron Donald and Chas Hern for the Hughie Hoare Endurance race.
At Round 6 of the Aus Superbikes in Tasmania, Chas had 2 wins
and a second place to put him 6.5 points off the lead of the Formula
Extreme class with 1 round to go. It means he has to win all 3 races if
the current leader Brayden Carr comes in 2nd in each. It will be tight,
but possible. Chas is also teaming up with Cam Donald on Chas's FX
Suzuki to do the Hughie Hoare Endurance race at Broadford on September
20th and 21st at Broadford, then the Superbike support at the MotoGP at
the island on the 4th and 5th of October. The final round of the Aus
Superbikes is on October the 18th and 19th.

Chas had his frame checked after his crash at
Queensland and it's all straight but Phil Tainton
found that his fork internals were bent, probably
from the highside at Winton when he busted his hand.
They're all fixed now and he'll pick it up Monday ready

Chas Hern for F.I.M Asian Super-Sport Championship
Chas Hern will be leaving after the QLD ASC for Singapore , where he will be taking
part in the 4th round of the Asia Pacific road race Championships held at Pasir
Gudang in Malaysia . Chas received the phone call Tuesday afternoon from Grayson Wong
of “Bike-lab Racing” to see if he could take part on their Yamaha R6.
Chas is almost back to full health after 2 major crashes that have left him in plaster
for most of his 2008 Australian Formula Xtreme assault, where he has a 7 point lead in
the Championship aboard his Mick Hone Motorcycle/ Mark Copper Automotive Suzuki GSXR 1000.
Chas also recently tested at the Ipswich circuit in QLD where he posted times that would
have placed him on pole for last year’s race. He was in race mode and managed to put down
over 50 laps on the day, with his race fitness now back on track.
He then spent last Sunday at his home track of Broadford where he again threw down over
60 laps and was also able to P.B with a mid 58 second lap.
His sights are still set on winning the number 1 plate in the 2008 Formula Xtreme class
and also looking to further his racing career in Australia next year if he is given the chance.
For those who didn't make it to the Little River TT reunion, I have added
some photos, I think everybody was blown away by the quality of the exhibition,
current and former competitors, the event organizers should be very proud of what they
achieved,
The Harley club was closely involved with this event, more so than I ever knew.
Hopefully this will become an annual event. click here to view album

Cam has just finished the Senior TT in 2nd place to John McGuinness.
He had up to a 7 second lead near the end of lap 5, but had machine
problems and finished the last lap with oil on his boot and rear tyre,
A brilliant result for his 2008 campaign.
Cam has done it again, winning the Superstock 1000 TT. He's on fire. He also did the Supersport race and came in 9th,
brilliant effort Cam.
Also Chas raced at Rd 3 of the Australian Superbikes at Winton on the weekend in the Formula Extreme class.
The Suzuki racesafe guys cut the plaster of his arm on Thursday night after his broken thumb was pinned,
wired and screwed a week before. He hasn't been able to ride or train at all since his crash at Eastern Creek,
except for Rd 2 at Malalla and the Vic titles 3 weeks ago. That's where he busted his thumb on the same hand
as the scaphoid from E.C. He still went really well and finished on the podium in all 3 races, scoring a second
