Some good news to report
Club member Kerry
lost her precious '74 Bonnie she had owned for 28 years,
Peter was contacted by someone who said they had a bike to
give to anyone who had lost a road bike that wasn't insured.
He told them about Kerry and he said to come and pick it up for her.
Peter picked it up this week and surprised her with the new wheels.
The generosity from everyone has been truly amazing and Peter would
like to thank Geoff from Longwood for this amazing gesture.
The bike is a brand new Yamaha V-Star 650.
The smiles say it all.
We're really happy for you Kerry.

Historic donation to bushfire appeal
The Historic Motorcycle Racing Association of Victoria (HMRAV) has
decided to donate its gate takings from its Victorian Historic BEARS
and F2 Sidecar Championship event to the Victorian Bushfire Appeal,
with a minimum $6,000 donation.
The event will be held at the State Motorcycle Sports Complex at
Broadford on the April 4th and 5th and celebrates classic motorcycle
racing, incorporating sidecars and solos from 1919 to 1980, BEARS solo
racing and modern Formula 2 sidecars.
The HMRAV would also like to invite all bushfire survivors to the
event free of charge, to enjoy a day of motorcycle racing and walk
amongst the machines.
Tickets will be distributed through the effected areas via local
community groups and the CFA. The HMRAV would like the Broadford APEX
and Broadford Scouts groups for their assistance.
The HMRAV, with the assistance of Motorcycling Victoria, Motorcycling
Australia, www.mcnews.com.au, Australian Motorcycle News, will promote
the event to boost the gate and provide a larger donation.
Further information can be found on www.hmrav.org or
www.sidecaraust.info.

Honda Broadford Bike Bonanza gala dinner filling fast
Book your seat for the night of nights
Saturday evening, April 11 2009, will be the chance to unwind, don
some smart clothes, and enjoy fabulous food, wine and illustrious
company under a fully-lined marquee in the centre of the Broadford
complex.
The evening will commence with pre-dinner drinks prior to moving into
the marquee itself, where dinner will be served from 7.30. This will
consist of a professionally-catered four-course meal, with drinks
provided by the award-winning Tahbilk Wines.
Following the meal, our guest of honour for the weekend, 1969 World
250cc Champion Kel Carruthers, will take the stage to recount details
from his fabulous career.
This began in Australia in the 1950s and took him to total domination
of the local scene, before moving overseas to a world title and two
Isle of Man TT victories.
After retiring from racing in the mid-1970s, Kel’s legendary tuning
skills and vast experience became the critical factor in guiding first
Kenny Roberts, and later Eddie Lawson, to World 500cc Championship
titles.
He remained firmly connected to the sport until last year, when he
decided to retire and enjoy events such as the Broadford Bonanza and
others around the world.
Individual dinner bookings are $110 fully inclusive, or $1000 for a
table of ten. Dress is smart casual.
The seating is strictly limited to 250 people and the dinner is sure
to be a sell-out, so book your spot now for the social occasion of
what will undoubtedly be a memorable weekend.
For further details contact the event secretary, Peter Drakeford, on
0422 299 003.

Bush Fire Tragedy
I guess everybody is well and truly aware of the tragic bushfires
that are sweeping through Victoria, unfortunately a lot of our friends and
members of the Harley club past and present live around Kinglake and Flowerdale
a lot of them have been affected , good news is that, so far we know,

Vicky, Nigel & Kids
Garry, Karen & kids
Kerry, Ray & Bonnie
Grant Dianne, Yipp & Samantha
are all ok, but a lot of these families have suffered massive
property damage.
We'll keep you up to date as we find out more.
We really feel for you, we're relieved you are safe .
If
anybody can help with these items
Generators, leads and gerry cans are needed by those with houses

Australian Motorcycling legend
Bert Flood dies.
The word legend gets thrown around too often these days,
but when it came to Bert Flood I think nothing could be
more true, everything he touched was a success, it's very
sad to see him go, but he and his achievements will never be
forgotten, our thoughts are with his family and friends.

There is a Dirt Track survey on the MA website (
www.ma.org.au
).
This has been as a result of the forum last year, so jump on and fill it
out, it isn't going to be on for much longer and will give them some
feed back. |

Practices will be going ahead, but we're not able to have one this
month unfortunately. Dates will be fixed soon, but again we need a few
extra heads on the management committee to add some more ideas. It's
not all that hard. Most of the time there is a meeting every month at
the MV office, but it can also be at some ones house, factory or shop
if that's easier.
