Dave actually started as a motocrosser in 1977 and came third in his first ever open race, he rode Yamahas in those days. |

here are at an open event where he raced against the then Toshiba Yamaha team and won. |

In 1982 Dave had his first ever go at road racing and went to Amaroo Park in Sydney with his YZ490 dirt track bike, he entered five races and even though he admits he struggled with the then push start road races, he got a first, three seconds and a third to finish his day. A month later he went back in the rain and won all five classes lapping the entire field in the 1000cc open event. |
