Australian Status Quo Conventions
From 1995 until 2005, there have been four Quo conventions held in Australia.
1st Australian Quo Convention - 1/10/95
Ruth Courtney, the founder of the Australian Quo convention idea, organised the first convention back in 1995. It was held at Panthers in Penrith, west of Sydney, on the 1st of October, 1995.
The first convention was a day full of games, competitions, raffles, the making of new friends, dancing and the list goes on. The highlight of the day was a video message from Francis and Rick. This was shown on a large screen and everybody sat in awe as they watched the message.
The evening gave everybody a chance to relax after a wonderful dinner and dance the night away.
Everyone present would have to agree that the first ever Australian Quo convention went extremely well and a great time was had by all.
On behalf of those who attended the first convention, we thank Ruth for organising the day which was a great success.
Thanks Ruth!!!!
2nd Australian Quo Convention - 26/10/96
The 2nd Australian Quo Convention was organized by us.
It was held at the York on Lilydale, a small but comfortable resort in the Dandenong Ranges, east of Melbourne on the 26th of October, 1996.
Quo fans who attended came from all over Australia including Western Australia, South Australia, Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria.
An avid fan even came out from the U.K. to attend the convention.
The day again was full of games, competitions, dancing etc.
One of the days highlights was a group of Quo fans getting together and playing a great set of Quo songs. Some of these people had never met before the day but you would never have known that by the way that they got together and performed.
Like the first convention, the other highlight was a video message from the band.
Thanks to all of you who travelled far and wide to attend our convention. We really did appreciate it.
3rd Australian Quo Convention - 4/10/97
This year the convention was held in sunny Brisbane.
Another successful day, despite the fact that the amount of
people in attendance was down on the previous two conventions. Many people felt that the drop in numbers
was due to the fact that Quo had toured in March of the same year, and for many fans the conventions were the closest thing to
going to a Quo gig. This did not deter the organizers or the people who attended. Again, a great day was
had by all.
On the way to Brisbane from Melbourne for the Convention.
A group shot.
4th Australian Quo Convention - 12/11/05
For the 2nd time around, we organised the 4th convention.
As we had already organisied the one in 1996, it was fairly easy putting everything into place.
As before, people came from interstate and we really did appreciate their efforts.
The usual day was planned with competitions, a raffle, a talent quest (thanks heaps Mick!), a meal and an absolutetly great finish to the night thanks to Melbourne Status Quo tribute band, Piledriver.
These guys blew everyone away with their set. Thanks guys!
