There is now a revolutionary Braille Book production system called Index 4x4 Professional. This is comprised of a re-designed Index Everest double-sided cut-sheet embosser mounted within an integrated trolley stand and noise-reducing acoustic cabinet.
The Index 4x4 Professional system is designed to simplify Braille Book production by embossing and collating A3 sized paper in such a way that four A4 Braille pages are embossed onto each sheet of A3 paper and the operator merely needs to collect the stack, staple them together as they are, and then fold along the embossed centre-fold line into an A4 book. The A4 format is widely preferred in Europe, because Braille can be treated just like ordinary printed material and this is more convenient than traditional Braille paper as far as filing, posting and sourcing paper is concerned.
The Index 4x4 can emboss documents up to 200 Braille pages long. The page formatting is all done by the Index embosser, so plain text files an be sent from a computer and converted to double-sided Book layout, without the need for special software.
The embosser has been specially designed and tested for continuous Braille production. Altogether the Index 4x4 Professional system is much easier and quicker to use than traditional methods, and will be welcomed not just by major Braille Book producers but also by organisations that produce Braille newsletters, translations of official documents, bills from utility companies, customer information and so on.
