Bimonthly NEWS UPDATE

COMMENCEMENT OF CLOSURE OF BOOK RESOURCING & SALES. Many clients may be aware that in January every year we pack the old grey & pink van (EPH-220) and travel overnight to provide our resources & facilities in support of the Annual National Australian Charismatic Retreat for Priests and consecrated Religious, something that we have been doing since 1985.

Meantime, the Lord continues to look after us by focussing our minds on building an even better environment of love within the family that remains in our home, and by opening up new, responsible, income-earning jobs to supplement the meagre returns from this ministry. On July 4th, Gerry retired from driving Sydney buses. Frances will soon retire as fulltime library technician, work that made it possible for us to provide for the growing needs of our maturing children and helped to teach us more about how to deal with the huge variety of people that are there in the 'outside' world and who needed a kind word or action that made their day more bearable. It is as though the Lord is preparing us for a new mission/venture.

Sometimes in our 'busy-ness', the Lord might be far from the front of our mind, but when a 'hiccup' occurs that forces one to rethink a situation, its good to know that He comes to mind with the silent prayer for assistance, and the situation sorts itself out. However, (and sadly) it often comes after some regrettable words are spoken and time allowed for the smoke to clear.

THE UNFOLDING VISION FOR THIS MINISTRY. Over the last few months, we seem to have experienced a real drought of calls on our ministry, which may well have been a blessing as it has given us time to reconfigure our family life which has taken quite a battering in the last few years. But, fortunately, the audio services that we continue to be asked to provide, namely,

• the Annual National Charismatic Retreat for Priests & consecrated Religious,
• the NSW State CCR Conferences,
• the outdoor Stations of the Cross (pre-Easter) &
• the annual Mass for the Faithful Departed (November) at Macquarie Park and
• the outdoor Christmas Eve Celebration at North Ryde,

does give enough financial returns to sustain the ministry for now.

AN EXCITING & FRUITFUL STEP FORWARD is our move to CD PRODUCTION & TAPE TO CD CONVERSION. In 2006 we successfully undertook our first ON-THE-SPOT recording and production (including printing) of conference/corporate CDs. We managed it financially via an unsolicited, generous, 'out-of-the-blue'donation to convert the ministry to this format and the sales of this format spectactularly proved its popularity. Since then, demand for cassette tape production has suffered a sharp, dizzying decline so that we no longer do prime, 'live' recording on cassette although we offer it as an after-event option. In fact this has led to a trickle of jobs/requests from owners of early cassette material to have it converted to CD format thereby providing a new service arm to the ministry. So, if you have cassettes (even your amateur ones of special events) that you'd like converted to CD, get in touch with us.

It continues to be a miracle that, we believe, the Lord had worked for us just to keep the ministry going. We look forward to new doors that He will put us in front of in this Millenial year.

Also, for homeless men, especially those addicted to alcohol, he and two colleagues, introduced and established Alcoholics Anonymous in Australia. For the mentally ill he was involved in founding the self-help group called 'GROW'. His welcoming, open-door attitude to the wounded, the lost, the marginalised, extended to all without prejudice, even to stray animals and birds. Book ($20 AUD)	LIGHT OF OTHER DAYS- an autobiographical Memoir of Fr John McSweeney. This work focusses on his post-ordination days from 1944 to the present in particular to his journey from County Cork, Ireland to Sydney in wartime 1945 and his subsequent pastoral postings/ministries, which aside from 3 years in post-war Japan, was confined essentially to parishes in Sydney. It provides great insight into the culture and challenges within the parish communities as well as the interactions within the priestly & established heirarchical fraternities.
