Yacht Location

So where is “TigerDance” right now? As of February 28, 2002 and until further notice, “TigerDance” is on the hard at Grenada Marine, St. David's Harbour, Grenada, West Indies... And where's that? Why not take a trip, take her for a sail and live the dream...?

The three islands of Grenada — Grenada, Carriacou, and Petit Martinique — are located in the Eastern Caribbean at the southern extremity of the Windward Islands, only 100 miles north of Venezuela. To the north lie St. Vincent and the Grenadines; to the south Trinidad and Tobago.

The local sailing waters are The Grenadines… a chain of dozens of islands, north of Venezuela, still uncluttered and unspoiled by crowds and tourist development and below the recognized hurricane zone.

The sailing conditions are among the best in the world —15-25 knots ESE to ENE trade wind for the vast majority of the year. The tides are 1-2 meter, and of little concern. The swell in the open channels between the islands is normally 2-3 meters… a pleasant ride with Tiger Dance’s 7 foot keel and ocean—going design. Her sails are shapely and she points with good speed up to 50 degrees into the wind or higher on a pinch. On a beam reach in 10-15 knots she can average over 6 knots.

The more “trendy” yachties tend to drop anchor further north, but if you’re looking for a little authenticity in life, hang around the Grenadines for a while… explore the diversity of anchorages like the island of Bequia with its dozens of cozy restaurants and good yacht services. While sailing back from Bequia, drop anchor at uninhabited Sandy Island and enjoy a sunset cocktail or a swim in the turquoise waters... better still, enjoy both! Back in Grenada, relax in Port Egmont, a secluded bay lined with mangroves — a real haven of solitude and tranquility and don't forget to check out beautiful Calivigny Island!

It is possible to day-sail all the way up The Grenadines island chain, however the present owner didn't find cause in 18 months to venture further north than St. Vincent and further south than Grenada. While sailing Tiger Dance around these waters, both the sailing and the next anchorage are always a true delight.

I've included some additional links which you might provide some useful info on the Grenadines... and will hopefully encourage you to buy your own yacht!
