The sixth edition celebrated NFSDU’s first anniversary,
with a look back on one year of NFSDU.
Richard Rudzki reported on a Victorian Forest supporters’ team’s
victory in the UK Cup. Jonathan
Taylor reported on his trip to Nottingham.
Membership had reached 115 Nottingham Forest supporters. Forest manager David Platt was subjected
to the infamous ‘Ambush on Century 106’, where on a phone-in program some
Forest supporters in Nottingham made personal attacks on the then
manager. Forest were in 6th
position in Division One, having won 6 of their last 7 matches. Finally, we looked at the services
offered by the Official Nottingham Forest Web Site. The seventh edition of the NFSDU Newsletter, produced in
February 2001, focused on the Rowdies Supporters Football Tournament, where
we finished third in our group after one win and two losses, and our 2-0
trial match win over the Newcastle Rowdies. We welcomed our first Tasmanian member, John Doering. We looked at the NFSDU Darts Team, led
by Albert Todd. Membership had
increased to 131 Forest supporters.
The delivery of the NFSDU Newsletter, which had reached its largest
file size of just under 1 megabyte in its ‘photo included’ form, ended in
chaos, with some members receiving the file twice. This was the last newsletter in that
form. The 8th issue of the newsletter saw the
return to a more basic format. We
looked at member discounts. Gene
Sutcliffe provided a report on the Kit Sponsors Luncheon. A new section for Forest-related web
sites was introduced. The
membership of NFSDU had expanded to 149 Forest supporters, and was closing
in on 50 members in New South Wales. In this issue, we introduced a new logo aimed at
recognising our Kiwi cousins on the club logo to a greater extent. This initiative eventually led to the
logo you see at the start of this newsletter. We also re-advertised some official club positions and
considered the possibility of club merchandise and a football team
kit. The scheduling of the second
incarnation of the Rowdies Supporters Football Tournament was also reported
on. The membership of NFSDU had
expanded to 156 Nottingham Forest supporters, with over 50 members in New
South Wales and almost 30 in Victoria.
Steve Bradbury told us of his visit to the City Ground. In this issue, we considered the possibility of NFSDU
Merchandise and a Football Team kit.
We looked at the possibility of a revamp of this web site (which was
hastened due to unforeseen circumstances).
A new column looked at ‘What’s happening at the City Ground?’ We looked at the new Forest World
service, and looked back over 10 issues of the NFSDU Newsletter. Membership had reached 169 Nottingham
Forest supporters. Looking back on the different newsletters, I have
developed an appreciation of how far this supporters club has come since
the simple idea I had to develop a more cohesive Australian on-line Forest
presence. The fact that this
supporters club can now boast a membership of almost 170 Nottingham Forest
supporters in a far-flung region of the world like Australia and New
Zealand is a testament to Nottingham Forest Football Club and its
achievements. Let’s hope we will be
celebrating the achievement of Premiership football in the not-too-distant
future, so we can have the luxury of seeing our club live in action once
again. Imagine how the supporters
club will grow if Nottingham Forest achieve Premiership status and achieve
some level of success when we get back there!
