The MTTV Story

by Peter Alexander

Dave's 30th This is the story of a notorious band called MTTV, which was an acronym for "More Tits on TV!". This name was used by a collaboration of Brisbane fringe musicians who got together in 1985 and 1986.

The post-punk and post-electro sound acheived by this foursome in various states of consciousness was a strange hybrid (slightly retro for that time, but also contemporary).

When they all got together in a share-house at Enoggera Tce, Red Hill they decided to get rid of the drum machines and synthesizers and go for a pure rock sound.

They were at times in the tradition of loud and macho Australian rock bands. At their best, they wrote some Chilesque ballads, and some hard-edged rocking numbers with a hint of a pre-Ministry sound.

Influences were: The Rolling Stones, AC/DC, Jesus and the Mary Chain, Rose Tattoo, Cold Chisel, Phantom Rock and Slicker.

Club Poster Macpherson was a Brisbane film school student who had been in a number of bands, including The Pits , with drummer Greg Gilbert (aka Des Johnson).

Peter was the proud owner of a 4-track tape recorder, that was used in the home studio.

Alexander was a journalism student and volunteer at radical radio station 4ZZZ FM.

Maddy was a teacher, and former member of a number of indie bands in Brisbane including Birds of Tin. He had recorded a number of things with Macpherson and "The Judge" Roy Utatao, including a great track called "Don't do it" which used an amazing analog/sampling sound.

Alexander and Macpherson were also DJs who played at break dancing gigs. They started the 2002 Club at the old Druids Hall in George Street.

Gigs

Only two of note:

After this last gig the members went their separate ways.
