Use AUTOSORT to get the correct running order, or there might be a crash. Most of these set-ups need to be run in medium-rez.
Games run best with no added programs. Use low-rez for these.
Try these out:
PINHEAD
XAES_BG
GEMRAM
WINX
SEBRA
NVDI
DAWNAUTO
SERFX20
BOXKITE
XCONTROL
ST-GUIDE
CHAMELEON
DAWN
NOTE: I read somewhere that it is best to run SEBRA before NVDI.
HSMODEM should work even better than SERFX20, but I never got around to trying this.
I prefer BOXKITE.PRG to SELECTRIC.PRG because it looks better in medium-rez. It also looks ok in high-rez, of course.
XAES_BG is newer and faster than LETEMFLY.
PINHEAD
XAES_BG
AMCGDOS
MACCEL3
AUTOMOUS
XCONTROL
QUICKST
MKMII
NOTE: Timeworks 1 doesn't work with NVDI GDOS function turned "on". Turn it "off", and run a regular GDOS instead. If running NVDI you won't need QUICKST screen accelerator to improve screen performance.
AMCGDOS is newer than the official Atari GDOS 1_1. It seems pretty compatible.
Timeworks is also pretty fussy about alternative file selectors.
MKM11 mouse tool looks great, but takes up memory and has lots of conflicts with other programs.
DAWNAUTO screensaver is especially problematic.
XAES_BG is newer and faster than LETEMFLY.
NVDI
DRVIN
MFP
STING
SCRNSAVE
BOXKITE
XCONTROL
NOTE: This arrangement works very well with CAB 1.5 and CAB 2.7 demo browsers. Apparently the newest versions of CAB require a multi-tasking OS. CAB needs some form of GDOS to work well. NVDI is strongly recommended.
I also like to use TERRADESK desktop replacement to improve on the TOS1.4 desktop. Maybe the BOXKITE File Selector isn't necessary, but anything would be better than the standard TOS one....
I have tried to keep RAM used to a minimum, hence use of SCNSAVE.PRG. This screensaver does have the advantage of "blacking out" the entire screen, which BEFORE DAWN does not.
XCONTROL control panel is smaller than newer ZCONTROL and COPS/WDIALOG.
I installed HSMODEM7 (DRVIN and MFP) to replace SERFX20 and other modem CPXs. It is much better, but tricky to set up.
PINHEAD
XAES_BG
GEMRAM
WINX
NVDI
SCNSAVE
BOXKITE
XCONTROL
NOTE: Even though GEMRAM/WINX uses up a lot of RAM, I think the extra features are worth it. There is also a slight increase in speed with WINX. I still can't go without a control panel.
XAES_BG is newer and faster than LETEMFLY. It is nice to have these extra features.
