My Involvement in the beautiful Keeshond

I became involved in 1974, purchasing a pet bitch aged fifteen months, Rutherine Kenmia. Shortly after, I acquired my first young dog, Snowski Venlo, who was campaigned to his title in 1976.

At this stage I had my first litter of seven pups. Ch Vendorfe Ascot Lady was my first home bred Champion bitch, receiving her title in 1977. She was mated to NZ & Aust Ch Waakzaam Walsoken (Imp UK), which resulted in a litter of six puppies. Ch Vendorfe Van Nessa was kept and shown, with a great deal of success. Both of these girls have Speciality Challenges to their credit.

Ch Vendorfe Van Nessa produced two litters. From the first came Ch Vendorfe Magic Mist, and from the second came Vendorfe Rockn Robin and Ch Vendorfe Prim N Proper, (Prim), owned by my son Stewart and the pride of my girls. 1984 saw the first Vendorfe exported to New Zealand. This litter was sired by a young dog purchased in 1982, Ch Bovenste Rashond.

Ch Vendorfe Prim N Proper was awarded Best of Breed at Royal Melbourne Show in 1982. There were forty-eight Keeshonden entered and an overall entry of six thousand and forty five dogs. The same year she took Reserve Challenge at the Victorian Speciality Show, at the tender age of just over seven months. The following year, 1983, she won the Bitch Challenge and Runner Up in Show. The judge was Mrs. A. McDonald (UK). In 1990 she was best Veteran in Show.

After much discussion with Stewart, we decided to export Prim to New Zealand, where she would be campaigned to her New Zealand Championship Title. While in New Zealand, she was mated to the very handsome Eng & NZ Gavimir Kiang (Imp UK). Prim regrettable missed getting her title by one challenge, but did succeed in having a very healthy litter of seven puppies. Campaigned from this litter were Ch. Vendorfe Silver Lining, Ch. Vendorfe Style N Shiraz and Ch. Vendorfe Skys Thelimit. Late in 1986, Gavimir Wapiti (Imp UK) joined us and was successful in gaining her Australian title and Challenge and Runner up in Show at the NSW Speciality.

The following year I was able to purchase Eng. NZ. and now Aust. Ch. Gavimir Kiang (Imp UK), the only Keeshond to hold three Championship titles in this country.

In 1990 I traveled to England for Crufts. "Wow!" what a show. This trip was to purchase a new Keeshond compatible with my current lines. After a lot of talking, about the problems in the breed and the epilepsy, and after meeting some very nice American breeders, I along with Andrew and Pam Yu, decided to bring into Australia frozen semen from Am. Ch. Designers By Special Request. Ch. Gavimir Wapiti (Imp UK), would be the first bitch mated to the semen, and this would see a first for our breed, with the arrival of seven healthy babies on the twenty fifth of December 1991. Two of the litter were shown - Ch. Vendorfe Styled Nthe USA (AI) [Max] and Ch. Vendorfe American Style (AI) [Penny]. Max has sired several litters and I am pleased with the type he has produced. Penny has only produced one litter and is now spayed.

Ch. Vendorfe Just Maybe, Jane…. well, what can I say? 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994 Specialty Challenges (Keeshond Club of Victoria), 1991 and 1994 Runner up to Best Exhibit in Show (Keeshond Club of Victoria Inc), Jane was also Best Opposite sex in Show 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994 plus two Melbourne Royal Challenges and also a reserve. In 1994 her son Ch Vendorfe Just Nthe USA won Reserve Challenge from the Puppy Class at the Victorian Speciality and repeated this in 1999. In 1995 Jane's daughter was exported to New Zealand, where she gained her title and became NZ. & Aust. Ch. Vendorfe Touch Othe USA now deceased having suffered with mamery cancer at the tender age of 5 years. She was mated to NZ. Ch. Ledwell Boston Tea Party (Imp UK). In February 1996, she whelped a litter of five puppies. From him with Ch. Vendorfe Liberty Belle being campaigned to the 1996 Speciality Bitch Challenge and Runner Up to Best in Show (Keeshond Club of Victoria Inc) at just over seven months of age. A son of Jane's, Vendorfe Magic Othe USA took the Reserve Dog Challenge at the same Show.

1999 saw the arrival of Imagine Nothin's Beyond Reach Imp USA , this handsome young male has a very impresive pedigree and will complement my girl.

2000, We have 2 litters from Imagine Nothin's Beyond Reach. the first is from Ch Vendorfe Ice Capades, 2 pups will be campained Vendorfe Count Me In, and Vendorfe In Forthe Count.

The 2nd litter is from Vendorfe Liberty Belle a female Vendorfe Keeping Count will also be campained in 2000.

Congratulations to Denise French and Chase, Vendorfe Chase Nthe USA CDX on winning Top Obedience Spitz of the year 1999 Spitz Club of South Australia.

I have bred in excess of 30 Australian and 2 New Zealand Champions, as well as 2 CDs (Companion Dog) from twenty-eight litters.

I feel that I have somewhat contributed to the progress of the breed in a small way and hope that I still have something to contribute.
