DIY lead acid
batteries.
This site is dedicated to the construction, re-construction and recycling of
lead acid batteries.
Lead acid batteries have been around for a very long time but not much has
changed since it's invention in 1859.
The construction of a lead acid battery is very simple and given the
appropriate information and a little care with construction - tough and
reliable lead acid batteries can be produced at home.
The batteries described here are mainly for stationary deep cycle type
applications although SLI (starting, lighting and ignition) batteries could
also be constructed from the information given I have not included any
constructional details for building them.
It is possible to build reliable and tough high capacity deep cycle lead acid
batteries.
Materials are easily obtained and are cheap.
Above is a picture of the first Plante type cell I built. Although small
(about the size of 2 cigarette packs) it could provide quite a punch.
